GMT Marster ii 16710n please help
Hi All,
I would like to introduce myself to you all as I’m new to the Rolex forum as I have just perchased a GMT Master 16710n 1999 to my collection of watches, I have a question to ask and I hope you don’t mind. I brought the watch from a reputable jewellers last Thursday and I have noticed that the hour hand whilst setting the GMT function doesn’t move only the date so it’s impossible to set the time for another time zone, is this problem common on these watches or after reading up about this it could be that the movement isn’t a Rolex 3168? The watch is covered under warranty for a year from the shop I brought it from so I’m covered on that front. Also if I was to take the watch to a Rolex shop is this something the could fix in the short term without sending it away to Rolex to be serviced as I am currently working on a super yacht and I won’t be returning to the uk until next year. Any advice would be greatly appreciated and thank you for your time. Many kind regards James Ps I love this watch and I’m very happy with it on my wrist it looks amazing |

No...that's not common. I believe I would have a conversation with your reputable jewelers and suggest they either fix it or refund your money.

The movement better not be 3168. If the watch is what you say (16710 from 1999) the movement should be 3185. And no, what you describe is not normal...or common.

The GMT Master 16700 does have a quick-set date and the hands are synced together. (you cannot "jump" the hour hand) Sounds to me like you have a GMT Master, not a GMT Master II.

GMT Marster ii 16710n please help
Finding the correct crown positions to set the GMT hand and then the one for the hour & minute hand independently of the GMT hand can be tricky. I have the GMT Master II.

The 16700 is a lovely watch, I bought mine back in January 2016 and it is the main watch I wear, the pepsi bezel is nicely faded and I am really thrilled with it, I hope you enjoy yours as much.

Nothing wrong with the 16700. It's a great reference also. Just hope you didn't pay 16710 money for it as they typically trade for a bit less than the GMTii.

I’d have thought it was the opposite, with the GMT selling for more than the GMT2. Huh. Ya learn something new every day!

"1988 the Ref. 16700 replaced the Ref. 16750. The Ref. 16700 was cheaper compared to the Ref. 16710 which got introduced at the same time." In my observation, the same pricing difference is found in the secondary market for those two great references. I personally prefer the 16710 because I like the jump hour hand, and I prefer solid end links and no holes case, which can't be had with the 16700. Just out of curiosity, why did you think the 16700 would sell for more? |

I figured it was older and harder to find. But I didn’t do any research on pricing - just a gut reaction. I’m quite the fan of the 16710 myself.

I prefer the 16700 for the date quick set as it is more convenient to advance the date.
I also noticed that 16700 is harder to find. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I chose 16700 over 16710. OP, you will love the watch. Looks like you have one of the last 16700s with the 'Swiss only' dial? |

With the recent rise in values of 16710s it is hard to say...but for the last few years 16700s have been commanding slightly more. They are hard to find as the slight price difference new ($150) most buyers bought the 16710. I know I never considered adding a 16700 to my collection at the time and finding a mint sel model was difficult.
