How does the "new" style Datejust wear?

I would like to hear from anyone who has worn both a Rolex sport model and the latest case style Datejust. I'm looking at a 116200 Datejust on oyster bracelet and was just wondering if it wears any bigger than the older models. I have a Seadweller that I wear most days, but want something a little less substantial to wear on the weekends and for more formal occasions.

Will my wrist go into shock switching to the Datejust? Even thought they are still 36mm, the newer models appear to be beefier and the solid link bracelet makes it "feel" like a more substantial watch. I've only looked at one at an AD and haven't actually worn it.

It does not wear bigger, but is much heavier than the old style DJs.

Beefier is a good description.

I have had probably 5 or 6 new style DJ's, on both Oyster and Jubilee...I love their look, but every time I end up regretting it and going back to 40mm sports models.

They are gorgeous, and if Rolex just gave them an extra 4mm I'd be all over one, but for me, they still look too small on a guys wrist.

X 2! When that new Rolosar came out, I found it absolutely stunning, and if it was 40MM, would seriously have my attention over the sports models, but I just can't get in tune with the smaller size.

Hahahaha i have the same problem...thats why i hate owning a watch that is in different sizes...

I've always owned Professional Sports models in the 40 mm size, with the Explorer 1 being the exception. I've owned 2 16220's also, both with Jubilee bracelets, which I ended up selling after owning for a couple of years. (I did not like the Jubilee bracelet feel as it felt kind of light and springy.) I decided to give the new DJ's a try, so in June, I purchased a new DJ 116200 with a smooth bezel and Oyster bracelet and it is the most comfortable DJ I have ever owned. The Oyster bracelet and re-designed case feels very sturdy, comfortable, and much more substantial than the earlier DJ models. I own 6 Professional models and 1 DJ, and have always felt that I wanted a DJ to 'round out' the collection. Visit an AD and try on the new DJ. I (a die hard Sports model owner for 14 years) was converted to the new DJ in June ! I am also considering a blue dial 116200 or a TT DJ in the future.

I have a 116234 that I bought to replace the older 16234. It is a VAST improvement! The watch wears bigger and feels a lot heftier due to the solid links.

I also have a couple of professional models (sub and ym) and while the DJ is smaller, after I have it on my wrist for a few minutes it feels great! My wrist is a tad under 6.5" for reference.

I have a SD and an old style TT DJ, didn't take very long until I could change from one to the other without feeling "cheated" about the size.

I have a newer 116234 with Jubliee braclet and it beautiful.
I have some wrists 6.5-7 and I Like the it wears and looks.

The DJ 116234 wears beautifuly and feels solid. I also have a 40mm Sub Date. I have no problem with a 36mm watch - this is a classic size for a mans watch and feels perfect to me for the DJ.

I would hate a 40mm DJ. Like the new 40mm Day Date it will look wrong and mainly consist of padding out to accommodate the new (and unwelcome) trend for oversized watches.

A 36 mm DJ is Rolex elegance perfected. A 40mm DJ would look like a Frankenwatch.

david...I agree re the DDII, but I would hope Rolex will do a proper job, not just raid the parts bin. Basically a Milgauss, but with the date and thinner.

Yes, I agree. I think thats what happened with the DD II. They rushed it out without doing a proper re-design. It could have been done better.

If Rolex were to produce a 40mm DJ I hope it would not be at the cost of discontinuing the 36mm, so there would be an option for both. I think that's the way they would go.

I owned an older Datejust (1994 model) on a jubilee at one time. The case size was not an issue as I have a 6.5" wrist, but I didn't like the light weight of the watch and the "cheap" feel of the bracelet. I looked at the new DJ on oyster bracelet at an AD today and it is definitely different--and more substantial-- than the previous model. The new bracelet and clasp is pretty sweet!

I have an F-serial GMT II (black insert) that I may try to trade with another forum member for a 116200. It is a nice watch, but just too similar to my beloved Seadweller.

I didn't want to say 'cheap' in my earlier post, but that's how a Jubilee feels to me (no offense) compared to the newer Oyster brecalets on the DJ's.

Love the DJ white romans, but prefer either the fluted or machined bezel. That was my first Rolex and I loved it. Do they even make the machined bezel anymore?

The new style Datejusts are very nice and feel solid...a very nice update to a classic design.

Yes, they do. In fact, my previous DJ's were with the machined bezel, and I ended up selling them. I like the new DJ with smooth bezel and Oyster bracelet.
