Just predictions but I am a bit shocked that red lettering is not the word Submariner but instead the depth rating.

Why would they emphasize the dive depth vs. the model?

Some of their predictions are a bit, shall we say, off.

That’s super cool in concept. I especially like the version on oysterflex! Probably never going to happen. Also not sure the red on the depth rating and not on the submariner part works but that would make it too similar to the SD50.

I like the slimmer lugs

I’m not sure if the next Sub won’t increase to 43mm, as the Submariner and Seadweller have always been the same size. Just a thought

I like it and the lugs look great. Not sure if it would be enough to get me to flip my SubC Date though.

Looks more slender than the 116610 thanks to the redesigned lugs now slightly tapered. Curious to know if they'd keep it at 40mm which I find a tad small for a diver although certainly not a deal breaker. The red lettering is a plus IMHO, a bit of extra colour is welcome.

Looks silly. The PS'd CG are way to small - and they forgot to PS the crown...

I still really dislike the cyclops, but that is a pretty sexual render.

41mm

I am thinking that if there is a new sub, it will come in 41mm. The DJ is 41, so would not the flagship diving watch be at least the same size? Also taking into consideration that they made the SD 43mm and not 42mm, which would have made more sense given the Deep Sea at 44mm. Perhaps, Rolex knew there was a 41mm Sub coming soon?

Love the idea of including an Oysterflex band. Like the versatility it offers and would prefer a OEM band.

Agreed. History, both ancient and recent, says it will be the model name that's red.

Beyond that, I can really see this design being what comes out eventually - basically a five-digit case with a maxi-dial, ceramic bezel, and current bracelet. I agree with Monochrome that recent design changes in other models show the brand is moving away from the maxi-case design. However, they completely failed to mention that Rolex typically introduces models in PM, with SS coming years later. They need to explain why Rolex would immediately jump to a new SS release this year.

I don't know but I like the look of it. Not sure why the depth rating would be highlighted in red but sort that out white white white and it's better. Endlinks a tad long - We like a bit of lug overlap as Rolex seems to have acknowledged with the latest Yachty. Isn't the date magnification a bit puny for a Sub?

The chamfers are now emblematic of the Tudor Black Bay. I'm not sure Rolex would want to reintroduce them to the Sub. But add them to the above design, fix the red text, and you would have an instant crowd pleaser.

The DJ is 41 in name only. It is actually 39.xx mm

Same for the Daytona that they advertise at 40mm but isn’t

Hmmmmmmmm I don’t know I kinda like the 116610LN more!!

The other thing is if they come up with this one, it means the end of the LVc since I doubt they will come up with a 126610 LV!!

Until a 126610LV down the road. That would explain the market already pricing it in half a year ahead of time. Since I don’t own a Sub, I would definitely love to have one with the new superior 3235 movement regardless of red print or white print. It would be consistent with Rolex slimming down the DJ2 to DJ41. Perhaps the trend of oversized watches is coming to an end. There has been a lot of interest in the vintage market and it’s very possible that Rolex will alter the case to look more like the 16610s while still sporting a modern look.

It’s all speculation until March but it wouldn’t surprise me. What I’m sure of is that if a Sub with red Submariner print is released, people will go crazy! Look at how well the SD43 has been received. Such a Sub would be an instant sell out and go for thousands above retail for a while.

No one - and I mean no one besides Rolex - knows what they will show at Baselworld. The most important retailers and journalists get information one day before Baselworld.

Every time I measure my 116610 with a vernier caliper, I always get 41mm from roughly 4:00 - 10:00, doing my best to avoid the crown guards. I can't figure out if the case really is that wide, or if the crown guard is influencing the measurement, despite my best efforts. The bezel is spot on at 40mm, but the case does flare out at the bottom.

If you think about it, Monochrome's imagining is basically a Kermit case and dial (five-digit case, maxi-dial, not including red text), and an 116610LN bezel and bracelet. I could see it happening at some point, although I'm not sure I'd covet it more than my current SubC. I think a lot of people would love it, though.
