which nautilus chrono?

friends,
i am again thinking of getting a nautilus chrono and essentially the choice comes down to 5980AR (the gold/steel nautilus) or the 5980R-001 (red gold case on croc leather). pics of both watches are attached. the AR has the beautiful blue dial but may be considered a bit retro for the bi-color case and bracelet while the R-001 model has a full gold case but it is overall rather similar to my 5712R....which one would you go for, as a nice piece to stay in my collection for possibly long without getting hit by a lot of depreciation?
i should add that i have excluded the 5980/1R-001 (full gold case and bracelet) since i already have a 5711R.

Hmm I would say none of them... If I were to pick a chrono nautilus from current collection I would go for 5980/1r or 5990/1a

I would opt for none . See if a SS Naut chrono comes at Basel or maybe source a 5980/1A

I think you already have the ticket with the 5711/1R. I would at least wait for basel.

Considering you have the 5711R I would probably choose the Blue AR, however I'm not sold on the spotty bracelet but if you are then that's a better pair than the 5980R which has more of less the same colour dial.

5990R at Basel is possible.

Not many incomings or talk on the 5980/1R recently, seems out of favour as SS is so in.

am i the only one who thinks the TT would look better exactly the opposite of how it is now? The gold parts being SS and the SS parts being gold. Its a lot more gold clearly, but price sensitivity isnt really a factor to the same extent at that level. I think it would look really good. Plus all the high scratch surfaces would be SS.

I would be very surprised if we see a new nautilus chrono in steel while the 5990 is in production. Unless it was combined with a different complication, eg annual calendar chrono.

5726 chronograph, no moon phase.

they will call it the 5780 or 5926, I dont think those names are taken.

It’s about time they retired the 5726 - that would be a nice replacement

That is wise, but between the 2 you proposed I would go for the TT. But honestly with your 12r and 11r I would be thinking completely different watch, perhaps a steel or wg and away from the nautilus line for a change, may be a 5170 would fit into that category

Just when it's finally having its day in the sun, you're like the Russian Artic wind that is coming for us this week...

Haha, the 5726 has always been a bit overlooked compared to other Nautilus. It’s a great watch though. Maybe a blue dial would give it a boost

In fairness it is discoed a few years now, and since then RG bracelet models have been released, but in its day here it was pretty popular, and it was my first ever Patek grail.

Ha, yeah you're right, I heard it was moving aside with the SS and since then its been so quiet I hadn't noticed.

In reality this and the TT and other failing models should now be discoed and production moved to the popular SS.

i was again offered a 5170P at a very good price point but turned it down again. too elegant for me presumably. my only elegant watch - the 5227R- has beed kidnapped by my wife and i don't mind a bit:::)) seems that i am more a nautilus guy. theoretically i like the 5990A but it is just too thick for me. i would really like a WG nautilus or aquanaut chrono though::::)))

Are you about to pull the trigger on either one?

i have asked my AD to order a 5980AR (they have no guaranteed allocation for this year but said it will work out). now i got second thoughts about going full gold, either on strap or on bracelet, but the blue dial is to die for....so i will stick with the AR.
also got offered the 5164AR, but not sure....i like the complication but another RG PP sports watch might be too much::::)))))
also this issue with the left buttons being pressed unintentionally bothers me.
