Always been a fan of all gold vintage, especially with the jubilee band. DJ all gold with jubilee band and hidden clasp is one of my all time fav’s, similar to the current 116238.
Also love the blue dial! Congrats!

That would look great on a Horween strap too.

I was just thinking about picking up a YG vintage peice. I’m a little intimidated by authenticity and pricing. Where did you start?

I suggest studying the model you’re interested in. Then work with a trusted vintage seller. There’s a list of them in a sticky on the TRF Vintage Sub-Forum.

Very nice Grady. My old 1803 DD had a similar look.

My first Rolex was a vintage YG Date with J band. It was probably the most comfortable watch I have owned.

I have a fairly decent network of vintage collectors here in Canada who are always offloading pieces that don’t get enough wrist time. But to be completely honest with this watch I got extremely lucky. I found it on Kijiji (which is like a Canadian craigslist). I took a chance on it and immediately got RSC to take a look and all was gravy! The jubilee is quite stretched and does need some Michael Young magic so I will be sending it to him in the next few weeks for a full restore. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Absolutely stunning. My next move might be for an 1803.

The ultimate stealth Rolex, my ref 6222.
One of the very few series of watches that Rolex has ever authorized without their name on the dial, for the now-defunct Canadian Timothy Eaton department store chain. The dial reads 1/4 CENTURY CLUB, and they were presented to employees for 25 years service. One of the very few gold manual wind oyster models out there as well.

First Gold Submariners
This article got me started on the path to my gold Submariner. Originally published in Skin Diver magazine October 1970 and written by legendary diver Dick Anderson. I haven’t posted the article on line in many years so there may be many new members not familiar with the story. Enjoy!
The challenge of finding Dick’s watch was elusive but I did manage to speak with his widow and first wife (Pictured) who confirmed the tale. The watch has been safely stowed in the family bank vault and circumstances precluded a personal examination. It did not deter me from hunting down more known examples of the first gold Submariners ever produced. Last edited by diverdick; 27 March 2018 at 06:45 AM.. Reason: grammar |
