Tudor GMT Demand

Obviously, this question will be easier to answer once the watch hits the stores....but we do love to speculate here!

The Tudor GMT has peaked my interest, but I'm not sure if I will like the size and weight. If I get it and don't like it, I would like to be able to flip it without losing much money.

Since most Tudors lose a lot of value if bought at MSRP, I wonder if the GMT will hold value for those who buy at MSRP soon after it comes out. Have there been any other high-demand Tudors that have held their value? I see even the vaunted LHD Pelagos is selling on the pre-owned market for a pretty good discount.

And the GMT will follow suit imho.
If you'd like to get an idea of the size and weight, trying any current in-house BB is your best option. I did that before deciding to buy my S&G sight unseen.

i like it too. Its going to be hard to get for a few months so the value retention window is small IMO. After that its going to be typical of the rest of the mainstream Tudors i suspect. No better, no worse.

I did try on the in-house BB. I thought the size was okay. But I'm not sure if I'll like it after weeks and months.

Having owned and sold a lot of Tudors my experience is that the values are consistent in trading and buying with the TS. The key will be, will your AD offer you a discount. Margins on Tudors are 55% of msrp. Figure your numbers from there for a discount. Remember the TS have a relationship with AD's and will get a better margin most times than you will. The saying, Buy Right, Sell Right applies here also. I would think that there would be no significant discount given in June when they hit and a slight premium from the TS. A few months latter they will be discounted and the folks that did not like it will flip and move on. I will get a look at the first to arrive at my AD and may or may not move on it. The watch that I really want is the S&G Black Bay with the champagne dial. Not many takers on it I assume and may see if I can get both.

No list apparent at the moment but that could change,,,,
Be a initial "rush" to secure a watch ,,,,,
I would imagine by xmas 2018 it would have settled down,,,,,,

I’m never sure if I’ll like a piece weeks and months into ownership
This watch is worthy of going for it. If you can secure an early one and “decide” a mo th or two into ownership than you’ll probably be ok. There is no sure thing In watches.

I think this will be a big hit, but greys are now wise to all the flippers trying to muscle in on their professional business, so I expect their bid prices will be very disappointing from now on on all hot models, it's already started in the UK.

Unsure of the wait but I did call 2 of my ADs and asked to be out on “the list”. Don’t care much for resale value as I tend to keep my watches.

IMHO, you won't lose much if you end up not liking the model. I think demand through the first year will be quite solid.

Thanks for the great insight. I appreciate it! I didn't realize that Tudors cost ADs 55% while Rolex cost ADs 62%
