Exp 1 at ad, should I grab?
So my local ad has a exp 1, was thinkng about grabbing it and tossing on strap, I also have a new hulk, is this a hard piece to get, would be msrp plus tax, I was thinkng of getting a 114060 since i sold my last one but don’t know if I can get out to front of list, always wanted a exp 1, just not sure it’s a hot item I can unload if I don’t bond with it, hulk was an easy choice

It isn't spoken for. That should tell you about it's "hotness." You should have no trouble unloading it, but expect to take a bit of a loss if you've worn it. Most grays sell it unworn for about retail, so you won't be able to get a premium for it in the aftermarket.

Oh you can unload it if you don't bond with it. But I wouldn't exactly call it a "hot" item.
I'm of the camp that you find the watch you really want and then buy it, though, so I'm not sure I'm of much help. |

Exp I is a great and versatile watch. I got mine with a discount a few years back, not sure if they are hard to get now. If you like it, and can afford it, go for it!

Yeah I’m thinkng just re-grab the 114060 and take the bracelet off it and toss my existing leather straps I used to wear on it. Wondering if they will put me to very end of list since I got my lvc basically next day, might have worn out my welcome lol

I kinda doubt we’ll ever be in a situation where it’s impossible to get an Explorer 1 from an AD. Then again, I think people said that about Sub Dates a year ago. Would you take a little bit of a loss if you wanted to sell it? Yeah, probably. Is that an ok consequence for trying a watch you’ve always wanted to try? I think so.
I also happen to really, really like the Explorer 1. |

I’m gonna test the waters a bit more on the 114060, my other option is a 5 digit polar to toss on strap, I have been thinkng I want to cement my relationship a bit more with my ad, only 2 watches in a year, but she has been great so far; who knows what next year holds reference wise

If it were me I’d look for a good condition 5 digit Sub, especially if I was going to wear it on a strap.

Please don't buy a watch just because it might be hard to get... Enjoy your Hulk and don't worry about watches.

The main thing is, do you like it? Don’t be swayed by how hot it is. I think the Explorer is a great watch.

I don’t normally see it at my AD, I like the previous reference better, so never bother to ask what’s in AD’s Safe.

If you want to do a test run, just buy a used one. You wont take a monster hit on resale buying new, but you'll take no hit on a quick flip buying used

I love my Explorer... looks fantastic on all straps but this is my favourite for comfort and look! Beauty with the explorer is that if you don't like it... someone else will. Easy resale.

Surely, get it. I have one and frankly it is the most comfortable of all my 7 Rolex references

My Exp currently gets more wrist time than my 114060. Its a great reference, but if it doesnt sing to you then no point picking it up just cause it's available.

If you want to pull the trigger go on as long as you love what you about to buy, the only case i can make for the Exp 1 is it's versatility.

The watch is amazing in photos, but it didn't at all look good when I tried it on. I would say buying it at MSRP, plus tax, you will minimally lose several hundred, if not more, if you try to flip it. |

Buy it if you really like it, if not pass. If resale value is your concern I would pass. The Explorer at MSRP will lose a few hundred dollars if you try to flip out right away.

It sounds like you want to want it rather than actually want it. If you can’t sell yourself on it, I wouldn’t buy it. The watches that have stuck with me are the ones that made that light go off in my head when I first saw them or read about them. That being said, the Exp 1 (especially the latest iteration) IS one of the watches that resonates with me. I’d absolutely buy one if I could afford it. A modern classic!!

I would just buy the Exp 1 used w/box and papers for less than MSRP and tax, I don't think it would be hard to find. Unless you prefer new or your name on the papers, but watches eventually get used anyway.
