3 Generations of Seamaster 300 Diver
I'm looking for advice between the Seamaster 300 Diver Ceramic or the new Basel 2018 Seamaster Diver, both in blue.
Recently I purchased the Bond Seamaster, 2531.80 wave dial, and I just can't connect with it, no matter how many times I tell myself "This is the classic, the original worn by James Bond himself". I much prefer the glossy lacquer of the ceramics. If I got the ceramic (2012-2017), I would add the adjustable sliding clasp to it. No Dealer near me has the new 2018 model, all I have is YouTube. Which would you choose and why, the 2012-2017 Ceramic in blue or the 2018 Basel release in blue. Thanks! |

give it time. that's a great piece.
there are pros/cons with the alternatives. the SMPc from the last couple of years has a matte dial and the new one from this years has the waves back. that said, the new one also has the date at 6 and the SMP has it at 3. I need it at 3, so waves or not, that's what I'd have to go with. I am a fan of the ones with gold through. YG or the red/gold are great beautiful |

I would choose Basel 2018:
I saw it yesterday and tried it. Somehow striking; vivid blue. If you can’t connect your older Seamaster, just let go. Life is too short for watches which don’t feel right for you. I’ve made myself many mistakes in this sense: ”I should feel&appreciate this watch....” It is very personal process. I think that when you’ll see the Basel 2018 Seamaster, you’ll love it! I have owned all three, all are great watches. Owning the new one I can say it’s an amazing upgrade. I love the new dial, the movement and the date at 6. Omega hit it out of the park. I traded my 14060 for the smp and that was a big upgrade. Good luck

Having owned the first generation and seen the second and third generations, I would definitely go for the newest version and I plan to next year.

I had a chance to try the blue and black versions of the new release last week. All I can say is WOW! I've always been a little hit or miss on the traditional Seamaster (I know, I know), but the new ones are fantastic. The depth and detail on the dial in person is striking. If I were in the market for another diver, it would be hard to look past the new 300

I'm a big fan of the 2531.80. Pre co-axial, movement on-par with the tried and true swiss lever Rolex 3185.

I’ve owned the first 2 generations but have only tried on the latest version. My preference is for the smpc, for two reasons:
1. The smaller size. 41mm is the absolute perfect size for me (7 inch wrist), and with a 6.75 inch wrist, I’d argue that 41mm is going to be preferable to 42mm. Some people prefer bigger sizes than I do tho, so this may not be an issue for you at all. 2. The newer generation Seamaster Diver and PO are both too sporty IMO. The updates are bolder, more cartoonish. I prefer the more refined, more classy appearance of the 2nd generation designs for both models. The waves on the new model are too “in your face” for me. My caveat tho is that I have not spent substantial time with the new model, and these are just initial takes based off trying it on. The movement upgrade is a big deal, and I like the updated bracelet. Can’t go wrong imo Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk |

I tried on both the new and old in black. I preferred the new, I have a 7.5" wrist.
I have it on order and it should be in "any day". |

Mine.
I dont like the new version. Too big, too thick, and that laser etching is nothing like the original more subtle wave pattern. Also not a fan of the display caseback; I prefer the hippocampus.

Personally, I love the new SM300! I'm actually considering picking up one as my first Omega, but I can't decide which color between the blue or the black.

The new one is fantastic. I tried it on in black and loved it. They didn't have a blue one in stock. The pictures of the blue one on this thread are stunning. Buy the new one!

buying the 2018 in black on bracelet
seen the blue in person both are really stunning heresy on here i know but half the price of a sub c ? some sort of value in my view i have bought 2 watches this year this new seamaster and the tudor black bay GMT - i don't think you can get "more" new watch for your money that those two this year - very happy with these 2 pickups this year
