Price of Gmt master II 116710blnr aka Batman

Guys I went to the AD in Cyprus and asked for the Rolex gmt master ii aka Batman and the watch was available but they asked me EUR10000 when the list price is EUR8100. Are they allowed to do that?

In short, yes they are, but that premium is very cheeky. I was quoted 8900 euros last week in a close-by EU country and I honestly thought THAT was cheeky.

I did buy it, but this sort of behaviour is exactly why people go grey (and I do mean both of the double meanings for that).

ADs are now turning themselves into grey dealers.

I bought it also for 9500 because I wanted it so much and in view of the rumors for discontinuance in year 2019 I didht want to lose it but this is not ethical from an AD

I thought ADs weren't allowed to charge over MSRP.

Why not, they own them and can sell for how much and to whom they like.

might as well. I like dynamic pricing if you can actually get the watch and get it from an AD. Some AD in Romania was doing that with SS daytonas and it was less than the secondary market price and sort of split the difference.

Market price is a real price based on supply and demand and other market conditions where as retail is a made up number with no basis in reality... plus its a "suggested" price but people always debate it but Rolex has never changed the term from MSRP to MMRP for "Manufacture Mandated Retail Price"

I would rather they sell above retail than discount PM watches. Discounts erode the brand value/luxury position/ image and a premium enhances it.

I believe that's a United States, and maybe UK, thing. In some European countries it happens (probably Greece, Croatia, Turkey, maybe Romania and Hungary, etc.). I wouldn't expect it in Switzerland or Germany though.

It's not allowed here in the States, but I've heard on several occasions that other countries AD's allow it.

The AD owns the watches and can do whatever they want with them, whether that's charge 2x, or throw them in the garbage. They just don't do it because Rolex can also choose to close their account.

Guys if I agree with some of you that they can sell in whatever price they want why the Rolex price list exist ? When I asked why I cannot pay the list price and buy the watch if there is no waiting list the AD owner told me that we have the watch available and the price increase is with Rolex blessings

Practically every product in the world has a MSRP, or price list.

You can find those same products for many different prices, depending on where you shop.

It's no different with a watch, Dealers mark them for what the prevailing traffic will permit. Rolex does not have anything to do with what an AD sells their watch for, and they do not give "blessings".

What Rolex does not allow by contract, is "Sale Pricing" or advertising as such.

almost all companies give suggested prices for their items at retailers. Doesnt mean anything.

No one complains when something goes on sale for less than the suggestion...so whats the difference? there isnt any

it wasn't too long ago that no one paid list for anything and expected a discount, including the SS watches. I do find it hypocritical to expect list price to be flexible in only one direction

Not to everyone though. Only to those with the same obsession.
