Vintage Rolex
Good evening, just wondered if anyone could shed some light on this watch I have acquired please? Valuation (non runner) anywhere close to London/Essex to get her repaired? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you |

Cushion steel case with porcelain dial from the 20-30s with a dealers stamp and fixed lugs? Definitely not an expert of these but came across a similar one last year selling for about 2500 USD

Thanks for the reply Karl.
She's a non runner so I don't think it's worth much, but a lovely piece to admire. I'd like to get her going again as she is in original condition the leather strap is very fragile but I wouldn't wear it. So what to you think? Restore or as original as possible. |

If that's a porcelain/enamel dial with cracks in it, you'd be surprised what putting it in the ultrasonic cleaner can do: once the discolored material is out of the cracks, they become unnoticeable, without repair. Of course, you have the risk of shaking loose a fragment of enamel, so check carefully before you consider this.

Not that scary, we used to do it with enamel and porcelain pocket watch dials often. You might not remember, pocket watches used to be worth a ton of money. Look for a pocket watch guy, there's still a few of them around. They'll show you what to do.

I took it into the vintage Rolex shop in Mayfair London yesterday and the woman wasn't interested in it at all she didn't bother to look at the watch and said here's a card with watch repairs on it and phone Bonhams for a valuation. Did buy a new watch else where for the wife's Valentine's will post pics later
