SD43 bezel easily moved?

Hi all,

So I’ve been loving wearing my SD43 every day, but I’ve noticed something. It’s really easy to gently knock the bezel off it’s 12:00 position.

Now as this watch was designed for deep sea divers, where knowing the accurate time of when you went in the water could be critical and determine the amount of air in the tanks, I find it a bit daft that a professional diver tool watch would have a bezel so easily knocked out of position.


Anyone else noticed this?

(Doesn’t detract from the watch itself, which is magnificent)

Not particularly, but remember that's why the bezel only goes one direction - safety

The teeth on the bezel are very sharp and pronounced which give it that awesome feel. However they tend to get hung up on clothing from time-to-time which can knock it off the 12. Typically, for me anyway, it only moves 1-2 clicks and it's pretty infrequent.

This happens pretty often on my SubC. It's only a notch or two so it doesn't bother me all that much. I just use it as an excuse to rotate the bezel all the way to realign it and hear/feel the magnificent clicks (best feeling rotation on the market, IMO).

Yes my Sub does it too sometimes if I knock it hard enough.

Worn by a diver on the outside of a wet/drysuit there is less chance of the bezel being tugged out of position by a cashmere sweater or an Armani suit jacket than being worn by the vast majority of owners that work in an office and worry when their Rolex gets rained on.

On a more serious note, if a diver knocks his bezel the elapsed five time as indicated can only be increased due to the unidirectional nature of the bezel. This means the dive duration will be cut short.

My Deepsea does it by rubbing on my shirt when putting it on. It's just buttery smooth. I wish it was a bit more tight, because I tend to find my bezel pip in all sorts of positions that I didn't move it too.

I don't own the SD43 but I did own a SubC LN and now the LV and I experienced the same issue! My hobby is diving and for that reason I only wear my Omega SM PO, which is easy to rotate the bezel but hard enough not to go out of position randomly like the Sub.

Wasn’t using the bezel as one of the divers took the lead and was only a 15m dive!

No more easily than the other divers in the ceramic line up, IMO.

But, TBH, I think they all can be moved pretty easily. Not a big issue for me.

Oh, the horrors...having to turn the bezel back. Or even worse...gasp...leaving it at a position other than 12 o'clock.

Yes I did. With the bezel rotating regularly, the watch is a flawed design. The GMT holds tight and there is no reason the SD should not as well. Sorry SD and SUB owners, if the bezel moves with normal wear, it's not working as intended.

Are you a saturation diver? The SD43 rotates no easier than any other diver Rolex produces. I still find it hard to believe anyone would sell this watch due to the bezel, on rare occasion, moving 1 or 2 clicks off 12 o'clock by accident. Unless you wear thick sweaters underwater I don't thing it would be an issue

If you're concerned about the moving bezel, definitely try Omega Ploprof or Seiko Tuna Can 1000.

I have a S43 too but it's a safe queen now so nothing moves LOL

Doesn't sound like this guy is a diver, that really doesn't happen in the water because it's on the outside obviously. So maybe the OP doesn't like the ease of the Rolex bezel moving, if that's the case, Omega for sure, which I wouldn't personally dive with for exactly that reason, they are too hard to rotate in the water, I find my DSSD perfect for setting when I jump in the water. - this is my opinion of course as a diver. Another alternative if diving is the objective is an Oris Pro Diver, very unique diving bezel, lift up set push down locked.

There have been threads on this in the past. The bezel is larger in the SD43 and extends over the case a bit more than on the Sub. It'll move on me when I screw the crown in after winding, and for some reason I manage to move it when I'm in the shower. Otherwise moving it accidentally is very rare.

Have to agree but many of these todays desk divers know a lot about real diving I dont think.

I have experienced this with the ceramic bezels. Never happens on the 5-digit aluminum which honestly has a more purposeful design.

The Pelagos solves this "issue" with a harder rotation detent at the 12 o' clock position. This noticable detent also means that you can quickly reset the bezel to 12 without looking at it.

Seems like Rolex should implement the technology into all of its dive watches.
