service question
If you were to send a rolex into the RSC with a non-rolex band (like a nato strap for example), would they service the watch or refuse it?

They'd service it.
You could also just send the head only if you think you'll have an issue. |

Sillo: Really? Thats great to know.
Others: Ive heard some "big brother" information from the local AD and frankly, its bothersome. Its hard to tell if he is full of it, or just yanking my chain (so to speak). 1) Rolex will ABSOLUTELY NOT service a watch with a non-rolex stap or band 2) Same deal for any change whatsoever to the bezel inserts 2A) You can easily see on youtube service centers outside of the US selling customers different colored inserts for bezels At some point, after you have been price gauged for a watch, it should be yours to do what you like with it. Having a big brother mentality company lording over how you chose to wear your watch seems a little insane. I can tell you from first hand experience that Patek doesnt do anything like this. In fact, they will service the watch to exactly how you want it, how you choose to wear it, etc.. |

Rolex does reserve the right to refuse service on watches with aftermarket parts.
They almost always offer to replace aftermarket parts with Rolex parts though. Aftermarket bracelets/straps are generally taken off and not reinstalled or refinished in any way.

Took my 116710LN last year to RSC London for a service on a black Perlon strap, no issues whatsoever, the lady even commented that she really liked how it looked on the strap.

There seems to be no universal policy regarding this. Seems to depend on the RSC and whereabouts in the region of the world. You would think all RSC's would maintain the same "rules" regarding servicing watches with aftermarket straps but nope. One says yes, another says no. Makes no sense.

There is a guy on the ar15 forum who just sent his Tudor in for warranty work to RSC. It has a factory Tudor bracelet on it but it is from a different model of the Black Bay. RSC has confiscated his bracelet and voided his warranty. They are asking for him to pay for the service to that watch. https://www.ar15.com/forums/General/...e/178-2224574/
Save yourself the heartache. Send in just the watch head. |

It must be a fake, they would get sued out of existence for stealing parts of they did that kind of stuff.

Shocking behaviour, but it doesn't surprise me. If it wasn't made that way, it doesn't leave that way if they have worked on it. Aftermarket straps and such are the exception though to my knowledge.. It's frankens and fakes that really upset them.

"The watch had a non-rivet genuine Tudor bracelet when sent to Rolex. About a week later I get a call from the AD that there is a problem with my bracelet and I need to buy the rivet bracelet because that was not the bracelet model for that reference. They also told me because it did not have the correct model bracelet, my warranty was now void and it would be $300 for the service plus $850 for the bracelet. No way they would repair the watch unless I paid for both. Sounds like I violated their almighty don't change the bracelet/strap policy and now I'm on the naughty list. Heres the kicker - I paid the $1150 for the repair and they kept the bracelet I originally sent in." |

I'm curious how they could justify that "voids" the warranty. I didn't read the thread, but if something was wrong with the movement there's no way Rolex could justify a bracelet change caused an issue. It'd be like your engine blowing up under warranty and they deny your claim because you put on winter tires.

It's the Internet...…… sometimes we are left with having to fill in the blanks for things that don't make sense.

Like I said earlier, you can send a Patek in for service in just about any condition and they will service it. I sent in gold chrono (Travel Time) on a nato strap (I don't like leather straps), and they didn't even blink. I paid for the service, they serviced the watch and sent it back. I think they might have ironed the nato strap, because it came back looking nicer then how I sent it. Seems like Rolex is getting a little too big for their britches.
