Gmt master ii vs submariner date

Hi everyone
I am going to buy a Rolex watch. But ı don’t know which to buy. I will buy gmt master 2 ör submariner date. I like both but i will buy one of them. And i must be hurry because my friend who works at Rolex dealer told me i have not got enough time. Submariner seems simple and everyone knows it. Gmt is polished steel and it shines. And gmt has more specifications. But its bezel is not liked bu me. Please any advice ...

Whichever you prefer the look of really. The black GMT could be harder to get as its now discontinued. Both great though and you can't really go wrong. Flip a coin if you really can't decide.

Welcome to the forum.

That is a choice that only YOU can really make.

I have both the Submariner date and the GMT II

The Sub date is my everyday watch and it super comfortable and has a much better clasp than the GMT II

The GMT II has the extra facility of a separate timezone display.

How much do you travel might help you decide.

But ... If you don't like the colours of the GMT II then you have answered the question for yourself.

Either watch will make you VERY happy.

If you travel to different time zones, the GMT is highly useful. If you do not need the GMT function, the Submariner Date is a very nice choice.

I liked the bracelet of GMT. On the second hand which one is profitable?

For the person selling you the watch, both.

Why are you asking that question ?

Are you keeping the watch or selling it as soon as you buy it ?

You inferred that you had to like the watch so it was for you to keep.

A watch is not profitable until you sell it so your original question seems odd.

Are you buying to wear or to flip for a profit? If the former then it doesn't matter. If the latter then i'll comment no further (and I assume many others would say the same).

Of course i buy it for wearing. But as it was told the black gmt production will not be available soon. Is it good or bad for those who owns gmt?

At the moment buy a 16610 sub prices now are not as crazy as 16710...profit wise will be better if you buy now, otherwise be ready to spend 10-13k on a GMT 16710, I just did it!

I prefer the GMT, but mine just broke. There’s some issue with the GMTs click spring.

As above, you really could flip a coin and be delighted with either.

If I was really pushed, I am extra fond of the GMT. Personally I find it a bit more special looking with the polished links adding some extra flash. I also think the quick set hour and GMT function really handy when you’re travelling. The GMT misses out on the Glidelock of the sub (which is great). However get the GMT fitted snug and you can pop the 5mm easylink out when needed.

I’m travelling just now and the GMT is so useful plus I’m always looking at what watches people are wearing. I’ve seen plenty of plain black subs and only one other GMT. It’s good to be a bit different.

Either way you can’t go wrong, but if really pushed I’d go GMT

The sub bracelet is far superior....fully brushed and glidelock is a godsend. Some people complain about clasp length on the sub but it has never bothered me, i dont notice it. The jubilee and PCL’s just dont do it for me

Do you need the added functionality of the GMT?

If not, the sub looks better.

By the way, I travel all around the world pretty much all the time with a sub no date.

Try both, if you can, before making a decision. They wear very differently.

If you’re looking for resale value, a quick search on for sale sites will give you your answer.

I second that. I'm a GMT guy myself, but it sounds like the OP prefers the Sub. Gotta get the model that truly speaks to you.

I was just about to write a careful and hopefully well balanced response to the OP when I spotted this.

These watches are for two different purposes.

You should buy the one that is most useful to you.

If you can only get one it sounds like maybe the sub would be the best choice
