1968 GMT Sub Values

I know a lot goes into determining the value of a vintage time piece such as condition, popularity, and rarity, but I've noticed that GMTs and Subs from the year 1968 sell for much less than models only a few years older or even newer. Anyone know why this is? Did Rolex produce more that year?

I think the sample size is too small to determine that ‘68s sell for “much less”.

For example, there is only one GMT and zero Subs from that year currently for sale on these forums...

1968 is meter first territorium. Meaning they are significantly cheaper than the gilt dialed sports models that preceded them. And, for the 1680 at least, more desirable than the feet first models that came later.

Not sure if i agree with this, it would depend very much on condition and what comes with the watch, papers etc. My one previous owner 68 GMT which is not for sale.

No, it just depends on quality and originality of the dial, insert, case, and bracelet. The more orig the better. The better the grade the higher the price
