PC (3940p) + C (5170j) = PCC (3970) ???

Someone check my math please.

Wondering if it would be a fair trade, financially, to part with a 3940p and a 5170j in exchange for a 3970j.
Assume all watches to be equal in condition, service history, and completeness.

I'd be consolidating an iconic perpetual calendar and a darn good chronograph to get both complications in one, end-game timepiece. I'm ok with that aspect, but do you think I'd be leaving too much money on the table or is this a reasonable deal?
All of these references are out of production and I don't have access to recent sale values - so I'm turning to the experts on TRF to help me make an informed decision.

Appreciate any suggestions.

I would do it in a heartbeat, but not 100% sure on the math.

It depends on what numbers you are using for the fair market value of these 3 pieces

Is this an individual to a dealer trade or an individual to an individual trade? If you are trading with a dealer, the dealer obviously has to make some profit off the deal.

I don't really have a feel for the fair market but I expect to take some hit on the trade. Trying to negotiate 2 private sales for the 3940p and the 5170 seems like such a hassle that I'm willing to pay a little extra for the convenience of one-stop shopping.

If I can negotiate an even trade would that seem like a fair deal? I just don't know if I'm being unrealistic in my ask, or if I'm about to get taken for a ride.

The maths approx
3940p 55k
5170j 30-35k

3970j approx 80 k depending on which series

Make sure you are getting a similar condition piece ie not over polished

Box and papers

Makes sense

Thanks Julian, appreciate that. It's a third series and described as mint condition, but I won't know until I see it person.

Mostly just curious about the math and you've helped with that - a fairly even trade then with me losing only about 5-10k on the deal. Not unreasonable if condition pans out. Even if i end up needing to add a little cash, it's still easier than finding buyers for my watches prior to purchasing this one.

That's the cost of convenience.
