Babying a Watch
Currently I have a LVc and a Black Dial DaytonaC....I find that I baby the crap out of my Daytona and beat the crap out of my sub...I don’t know if it’s the PCL’s, value relative to what I paid (MSRP), fact it wears smaller/lighter, but I just make a conscious effort not to ding or scratch the Daytona. Anyone else experience this? I will wear the sub anytime/anywhere/for any activity but always think twice about the Daytona.

Not really, I find that I treat all my watches the same.
I wear each on an equal weekly rotation. I have worn watches long enough to have developed a subconscious awareness to the point of minimizing wear and tear to a minimum. If I can avoid unnecessary damage, I will by placing it in a pocket. However, my watches with a high polish finish tend to show more hairlines than the brushed ones. I don’t mind them, they’ll disappear during routine service if I choose. |

If you paid MSRP for the Daytona then why baby it? That should be all the more reason to enjoy it.
I don't baby any of my watches. They're meant to be worn and enjoyed. I'm doing them a disservice otherwise. |

I am careful with both my watches but especially the Daytona. It doesn’t feel as rugged as my Sub.

I personally treat them all the same, just wear and enjoy them.

I beat the hell out of my Pelagos and 116610LV and wear them everywhere, but I’m somewhat careful with my 16710 GMT. I don’t shy away from wearing it, but I'll swap it if I’m doing dirty jobs or higher impact activities. Probably because it’s older and doesn’t feel as robust as the other pieces.

Mine is PCL Oyster vs. the rest (Jubilee, brushed oyster, leather and NATO. I tend to wear the PCL with care. Can’t stand multiple hairline scratches.

My Grand Seikos with that amazing finishing. Was terrified to wear them and ultimately let them go. Obviously they don’t compare to value of Daytona. The PCLs would definitely drive me mad. I would still rock a Daytona daily if I had one, but would prefer it on jubilee which conceals those unavoidable scratches much better. |

I try to be careful in that I think I have quite good wrist awareness when plodding around the place but I don't baby them at all. I wear them all the same and don't have any watch that I try to treat any better than another. All have scratches and dings etc. All of them are well worn.

I wear my Sub for pretty much everything and don’t baby it at all. I’m more careful with my Explorer since it’s basically my dress watch, but won’t freak out if it gets a scratch.

I tuck my arm behind my back in doorways or walking along a building/brick wall.

My SubC is my daily beater so I don’t care as much about it. Also something about the brushed bracelet makes it seem more durable and less prone to blemishes. I’m more careful when I’m sporting my gmt or dayC

I have a 16610 Submariner that I bought new in 2005. I've worn that watch the better part of the last 15 years. I don't abuse it but it does show a fair amount of scuffs and scratches. I never stress about wearing it anymore but that didn't happen overnight. It was a process.
On the other end of the spectrum I bought a limited edition Grand Seiko in Japan this past October. I still haven't worn it out of the house yet. I'm going to this week though as I have gotten the first hairlines out of the way. Carefree wear isn't in the cards yet. It's a process. Randy |

I pretty much treat all my watches the same. The difference is I try not to get the leather bands too wet. Also I believe in being respectful to the things you have and not abuse them.

It's the same with cars. I have a car in my garage that is only driven in dry weather (we have a Wednesday in August in the UK that's dry) but I have another car that's only cleaned every 3 years - whether it needs it or not. I wouldn't deliberately put my watches in danger - but I don't baby them. |

I neither abuse them nor baby them. If they get wear and a bit of tear it doesn't bother me. If they get damaged or broken they get proper attention whatever the cost. I wouldn't buy a watch to hide away any more than I would buy a watch to destruct test. Each to our own. Our money, our watches, our choices.

I certainly watch out. (Horrible pun)
With my Tudor BB I do everything, love that it get's beaten up. With my Explorer I'm more careful, mainly due to the polished surfaces of the watch. |

I think you are overthinking it
Don't be reckless, enjoy them equally, wether its a £400 Hamilton or a £30k PM Daytona and that's it. |

I have to admit... I do like to be very careful with my pieces. I am always cognizant of where my wrist is and how I am swinging my arm. When i sit, I try and pull my sleeve over my piece or I set my wrist on a piece of paper or cloth.
Guilty as charged. |

Ah, the beauty of a DJ with a jubilee bracelet and fluted bezel! Out performs both of OPs watches, where scratches and dings are concerned. Mine even came with diamonds!
