very nice, it has the new style clasp which is a good choice, and i have been told by a few jewelry designers that rose is the way things are going, i just wonder if this is gonna be as hot of an item with the DDII out, wouldnt it make this smaller face watch look old? my 2 cents. other then that its awesome.

Here's what went down. Long story short, I backed out of bidding. I looked through the other items he was selling and it was items like batteries and baby powder. He has sold a Rolex, but not one for over 10k like this. I asked him to call me, which he did, and it was broken english. He said he's end the auction for 11,500 and he was ready to go right then. I was on my way to pick up take-out and told him I'd call him when I got home. He also said he'd like to fly in and meet me with the watch. Now on the surface this sounds great, but carrying almost 12k in cash to a guy I don't know from Adam... eh no thanks.
He said he wouldn't mind coming because there are a lot of clubs in Atlanta he'd like to visit. Well, he said he was in Las Vegas (his area code didn't match Las Vegas), and if you're in Vegas I can assure you as someone who's been there more times than I can count that you don't need to travel for clubs. I asked him if the paperwork matched the watch, and he stuttered and said yes. Then when I got home and gave it closer inspection one of the booklets is for a Datejust Basically, this guy really doesn't know what he has on his hands, and I was either about to get a reallllllly sweet deal, or get realllllly screwed. After looking into it that Paypal buyer protection is a joke, so I couldn't rely on that either. I wished him luck with the auction and excused myself. I may have screwed up in a royal way, but something about it just didn't seem right.

Sounds like you made the best decision, take the low risk road and keep your cash safe!
Its always these little discrepancies that start the warning bells ringing the loudest, good instincts! Another one will come along, worth the wait Cheers, Dave.

He had sold two high ticket items (Rolex) in the past...
But if you did not feel comfortable with the transaction, you did the right thing! I think if you are looking to pull the trigger on an item of that caliber, you can sit and wait for the right one!! CHeers! |

Yeah, I know. It was just the whole vibe I was getting from it. Plus the damn thing ended at 3 in the morning. Oh and one more thing, he asked me to do the deal outside of ebay and without paypal.

I think the only thing going for him on doing a deal out of Ebay was that he was willing to meet you personally. Thus probably the offer to fly out to you and do the transaction, he would have saved upwards of $500 (thus the travel to your place to party)....

Yeah, I don't blame him but Atlanta is a solid 3 hour drive for me one way so not exactly convenient.
