Buying used Rolex from brick and mortar

Hi guys, first post here.

Seeing as it is impossible to pick up a stainless Rolex from an AD in Toronto, I've started looking at buying used pieces. There are a few brick and mortar stores with the full selection of SS subs / GMT batman pieces available for a premium. I've purchased 3 Rolex models from an AD and never thought I'd go second hand because I'm paranoid about fakes.

The question is, is it rude or ill-advised to bring my loupe to the store and inspect the pieces under magnification before making a purchase? Does the fact that I feel I need to do that indicate I should not be buying used anyway?

Don't be hesitant to use a loupe.
When I've sold or traded watches to aftermarket dealers, they always use one to inspect the watches before they will even think about making a deal.

As a watch dealer I can tell you that you should always do your due-diligence on a specific shop or individual before making the purchase. There are REALLY GOOD shops and then there are REALLY BAD ones as well.

I think normally the shop or dealer should have the loupe for you to use also.

You should take anything you need to establish authenticity to the best of your knowledge. I take a loupe and a portable UV torch. I also take my time going through paperwork and I take more time still to establish the credentials and reputation of the seller before I go near them. I have gone grey for two models which I could not get from ADs nor get listed for. I would have preferred to pay MSRP or below but other than that, the buying experience has been as professional and slick as an AD - once I had bought the seller.
