Hi Rolex team,
I want some help. Looking to buy a Rolex explorer II 2008 | 16570 | Black| calibre 3186 as an investment that goes up in value instead of putting that money in stocks shares. This is my first rolex and I want re assurance that in a few year 5 - 7 years or so that this will 99% go up in value so if i need to sell morgage etc life goes down hill i have the option to sell and know i have made some cash. I found one option with box / papers in really good condition for £5,800 and I have been told this is a good one to go forward but i can't see many 2008 models that have done well in increasing value over the years. I just want to know that am i better of going with the old rolex Ex II - 16570 with the old calibre and if that is a better investment or that this will do really well later down the road. I Just an expert to give me peace of mind. Please let me know asap guys !! |

Sorry, using a watch as an "investment" option is not likely to be a good financial decision.
On the bright side, a Rolex always holds good value so if you hold onto it long enough you will see value-over-time.

Right thanks I understand “investment” might not be a great word to use but I want to see it go up in value at least.
Would you recommend the 2008 or would you go with the older calibre explorers and is that a good price? |

Get a polar one. Better investment, if that's your thing.

Yeah more of a black fan tbh - is the price good for this model and do you see these going up in value as people are saying £10k in coming years but I couldn’t believe that

You can feel reasonably comfortable in that watch "holding" it's value, in my opinion. I don't think it's over-priced, though it was certainly obtainable for considerably less a few years back. However, I'd be viewing it as a "best case I keep my money and wear it for a few years; worst case I pay a modest sum in depreciation to wear it for those few years" type of vehicle, as opposed to one to use as a financing instrument. Unless you've got the spare change laying around, don't need it for emergencies (i.e., you have a fairly comfortable rainy day fund), are already invested across a spectrum of assets, and have pretty good certainty that you're income streams (job or otherwise) won't turn off in the next 5 years or so, I would not be making said purchase.
That is a slightly more nuanced answer than the "watches/Rolex' should NOT be viewed as an investment" statement that most will give you. |
