Lee Westwood - R2D Champ - Summer Edition
Lee is now the Race 2 Dubai champ, for the 3rd time. A nicer guy you couldn't wish to meet and a great AP ambassador too.
He was wearing his ROO Summer Edition, which really makes me nostalgic for mine. Well done Lee, well done AP. |

I was watching the golf and when he put that on I was trying to work out what it was and I didn’t even consider that it might be a SE. I thought it must be a custom dial.

what I really want to know if why he never wears any other APs. he has been wearing the ROO summer edition for years.
Ian Poulter on the other hand wears all the great ceramic pieces and switches a lot. Does that maybe mean they get access but have to pay for the watches or do they get them free? |

They definitely don't get all of them free, but of course they get some free and they are all VVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVIP's, so ahead of us in the queue for new models. |

They must get all the pieces for free + extra cash... and even if they give them 5 watches a year including hottest ceramic models it is peanuts for all marketing they do...
Or top golf players are not influencers like some others... reality stars and some other sport celebrities get enought money for one instagram post to buy few RO tourbillons. One post, one day of work... and here we speak about whole year of marketing and watches on wrists during biggest tournements... |

I'm sure that 'within reason' the players get what they want, but I doubt that means free run of the entire range. As always, I may well be wrong... |

Westy wears his 'ambassador' white ceramic cased ROO often, and I also recall seeing him with a Schumacher or Barrichello or similar. But again, he does like his SE.

From my perspective, I love seeing the players wearing their AP's and it's cool to see them chop and change between the models in their collection. |

EDIT: btw all Tiger is ever wearing is his deep sea diver from Rolex and we all know he could buy/ get the entire Rolex catalogue 100x times over - it's probably also depended if players care about getting the latest watches or just wearing whatever they get and satisfies the sponsors. |

From the company perspective, Rolex done it in a best possible way with Roger Federer... from Daydates, Wimbledon Datejusts, Daytonas, GMT Batman with jubilee... always on point... and his personal collection among these modern is full on vintage pieces... On other hand, IWC made a number of limited edition associated with his name, but Lewis Hamilton can't wait to be outside of track and F1 events to wear some Rolex, AP, PP watches... at one point his deal included social media posts, so he blurred wrist on his personal pics with PPs and APS on them... |

I've not noticed the players wearing 'current' or 'new' watches, the only one I can remember from this year is Tyrrell Hatton who was wearing the new ceramic and gold ROO. Most other players that I remember seeing on TV were wearing 'older' items.
Also, just to add to the 'they probably get anything they want' theory, I was fortunate enough to play a round of golf last year with Danny Willett, Masters Champ in 2016. He told me that AP made a green face Royal Oak as a special edition model, limited production, for some dealer/region and he though it would be cool to get one to symbolise his Masters victory...he couldn't get one! I'm sure that's because it was already fully allocated and sold out, but even so, if ever there was an AP golfer that deserved a green model then it was Danny. |

Bubba watson on the other hand has one of the hottest RMs in the watch game bearing his name - I m sure he gets at least his own model for free. |

Their endorsement deals are done in a way that they must know exact amount of $, number of goods (in this case free watches) they get, minimal number of sponsored events they must attend, commercials, shootings, social media posts etc etc...
And like any business, someone do it properly and by the contract, someone always ask for more (and when we speak about biggest stars they are rarely refused), someone really connect with brand and do extra effort to promote and someone needs to be pushed to deliver agreed deal... |
