Condensation Inside Crystal after Service

Anybody else had this issue? Just had my 1994 Omega Speedmaster Triple Date serviced at the Omega Service Center through my local Rolex AD after shattering the crystal (don't ask!). Had it back about 4 weeks and noticed the crystal was foggy. After getting a loop I could see small droplets of condensation had formed inside the crystal. Never had this happen before so I brought it back to the AD where I had it serviced. They did a pressure test and it failed - so they sent it back to Omega. It took about three months the first time so I do not expect to see it until Spring - ugh!

Anybody else seen this before?

Sorry, but I have never been pleased with quality control from Omega Service Centers. I use Nesbit's in Seattle pretty much exclusively for service to my Omega watches (might let Archer do my Speedmaster Pro when the time comes).

Tony - Not only was the quality questionable, but the cost was really high! The other disappointing thing was no documentation from the service. I had my DateJust serviced at Rollieworks and they provided details and printouts of the accuracy and testing. From Omega I got something that said "case only"??

I recently had my 66 speedie serviced by an independent watchmaker. Three months later out of nowhere moisture fogs up the inside of the crystal. So I removed caseback and put the watch in the fridge overnight. Refrigerators are good dehumidifiers.

The key is to lock in the dry air. So I emptied one shelf in the fridge and used it as a workbench. Made sure gasket was set properly and applied a very light coat of oil to gasket and threads to enhance the seal and reinstalled the caseback.

My wife saw me working on my watch in the refrigerator and asked if I had lost my mind!

So far dry as a bone.

Had this happen once after I bought a preowned Seamaster. Was an o-ring failure at the stem.

But the Omega Service was 2 years old so will never know if they used the wrong size or did it poorly. The viton material doesn’t degrade that quickly.

Had that happen with my trusted watchmaker and a vintage Seiko chronograph after a service. Diagnosed it in 2 seconds as a faulty crown/stem gasket. Fixed it and no more condensation

I did. I wish I had these optional service providers prior to sending back to the Omega Service Center. Live and learn!

OMEGA serviced my 50th Buzz Butt (power reserve broke) in a timely manner and all went well. i just wish they spent a bit more time regulating it too as +6 sec/day is a bit high for my liking, but oh well it is what it is. Great timepieces, and imho everyone should have a Speedy within their collection.

That's such a shame. I really hope they get this resolved for you quickly and that all is well.
