I am about to purchase my first Patek and would appreciate input from seasoned collectors.
I left a deposit with my AD for the next 5172g. Recently, my AD offered me the next 5270p instead. The 5270p is my grail watch, so I accepted. I also have right of first refusal for next year’s 5172g. Buying the 5270p new, I will “lose” roughly 40K immediately. I have not been aggressive in trying to pair the 5270p with an Aquanaut, but have hinted that I hope an Aquanaut is in my future. My AD tells me he has others interested in the 5270p, so I sense my bargaining power is limited. Is anyone anticipating the 5270p to remain at -20% forever? Is SOME price recovery expected upon discontinuation? I do not view watches as “investments”. I am not trying to make money. I am simply wondering what seasoned collectors think about the prospects of a 5270p recovery upon discontinuation. I am aware that the 5270 line is not popular and am aware of the general complaints (chin, subdials below equator, 41mm). Seems like not many people are buying the 5270p from an AD, given the depressed secondary prices. Am I crazy? I am shocked such a beautiful watch is so unloved. Thanks for your time. |
