To RoleX or VC or Patek
Here’s the ‘dilemma’...
Current collection is: -SubC Date steel -OP39 white dial -Omega Seamaster 300M blue dial -Omega Speedy Pro Hesalite -Montblanc 1858 Geosphere Bronze I’ve want to get a dress watch for the collection but have come to the realization that enough is enough, and I don’t need to add another watch. It may sound crazy but I wear the Sub the least and I think that will be the one I want to part with. That said, given my collection and that I want to add something dressy, would you rather get a : -datejust 36 (two tone rose gold with white dial) -Vacheron Constantin traditionelle small seconds rose gold on brown leather strap -Patek 5196 rose gold small seconds (I may be waiting a while for this and I don’t have much patience Thanks all |

If I were in your position then the VC would be my choice, owning a VC is my ultimate goal so I may be biased.

I love the VC in white gold. I’m tempted myself but I would hardly ever get the chance to wear it seeing I’m only in a suit maybe once or twice a year.

I just picked up a Patek World Time 5110G for my dress watch and it's fast become my favourite watch. It's understated in the best possible way. I can't stop wearing it.

I would go the 5196 as well. Define waiting for a while? Price wise or do you want it from an AD?

5196 In a heartbeat. Tons of Patek DNA... Iconic design. Great buy if you look hard enough on the used market.
So understated and more wearable on a daily basis than you would imagine. |

I vote Patek, but between PP and VC you can’t go wrong.
Not the Datejust, it’s not really a dress watch as such. |

Posting on here is like hosting an AA meeting at a local pub
In all seriousness though, I thought there would be more love for the Rolex (considering the forum and all). A bit surprised that the VC is neck and neck with the Patek. The nice thing about VC, is when you visit one of their stores, the SA’s actually take the time and explain things to you. To me, it brings me back to what the watch buying experience should be. Unfortunately with high demand brands (namely PP and Rolex), it is give us your number and we will call you whenever... Quote:
For something like this, just feel more comfortable getting it from an AD. |

I'm partial to the look of a 5196 w/Breuget number dial, personally, but for an all-occasions dress piece the VC is stellar.

If a Patek is in your list of must-have, then the 5196 is a perfect entry point.
Otherwise the VC presents way better value ie. glass back, nicer movement etc. Forget the DJ - it's not even in the same league. Good luck & have fun in your search |

Patek 5196, get them before they discontinue them. I just saw a 5196r in a case last week .
My two daily wearers are an Explorer 1 214270 which is the same case and bracelet as your OP (minus the clasp) and a white gold 5196. VC is great and if you can try one on and love it go for that. But the smart money is on the Patek. Happy hunting. A few good YouTube videos to watch are ArchinLuxury and Watchfinder. WF has a great comparison with the 5196r and VC. Archie Bunker tells it like it is. |

The DJ is a classic choice with excellent durability, reliability, service, and truly an enduring style. The VC is an interesting wild card (kinda like why i went with the Bvlgari Octo FS, yet it adds a long warranty and 100-meter WP). i wouldn't worry a second about the Patek and availability, as you can do far better elsewhere plus their warranty is a bit thin to say the least!
If you tend to be active, obviously the DJ is the choice, which is the way to go given those three choices. With the DJ you have zero worries about everything from wearing it 24/7 and knocking it around to daily tasks like taking showers... to swimming in the ocean. So if you plan to keep this timepiece and wear it often, then the DJ is your obvious choice imho.

If you feel inclined to get a "dress" watch, then get the one you will actually wear. Indeed, you may even think carefully about how often you'd actually wear one. For example, while I love the look of so many of the leather-strapped, PM watches out there, they don't fit with my regular wearing habits enough for me to justify the price tag. I must exercise extreme discipline to keep myself from impulsively pursuing the Patrimonies or Calatravas of the world, but in my heart I know its the right thing for me.
Out of your choices, the VC or the Patek most classically fall into what many consider to be the dress watch category -- either would add the most diversity to your current stable. The DJ is a beautiful watch, and although it certainly can be worn in whatever scenario you choose, is not quite as "dressy" as the VC or Patek (nor is it high horology). Also, would the white dialed DJ render your white dialed OP redundant (or vice-versa)? Regardless, you have a very respectable collection as is. Take your time (easier said than done ). Best wishes! |

Gotcha. Yeah, we tend to get less allocation of everything per say. I know Vancouver sold a 5196G last month. I'm sure its possible to get one by the end of year if you are willing to wait. |
