30m vs 60m WR difference?

this question i suppose applies to any dress watch but what is the technical difference in a 30m wr vs 50 or 60m? does increasing the WR slightly make the case lines too bulky, or add unnecessary expense? i mean AP has watches with 20m, 50m, 100m.

more to the point is i wish more watches had slightly higher WR than splash resist so i could feel comfortable going to the pool with it and traveling without worrying about it. i know most on here don't feel comfortable with <100m doing those things but patek and AP say it's fine for surface swimming the 5712 and the jumbo provided they are pressure tested.

A few years ago, I had just gone swimming with my AP RO (50m) and happened to meet the CEO of Lange. As I was trying on his Odysseus, we spoke about the swim and he visibly recoiled in horror. Read into that what you will...

I no longer swim with any watch that isn't at least 100m water-resistant and recently serviced.

On second thoughts, maybe that's why I didn't get allocated an Odysseus.

I have been swimming and snorkeling with an IWC Mark XV rated to 60m for 20 years no problem (likely never further down than 5m). Also no problem according to IWC...

Different makers have different recommendations as to what can be done for the same rating...

yea i swam with my 15202 and regularly with my mark xviii. if less than 200m i pressure test then regularly. just curious what the issue in making something slightly more water resistant than just splash proof 30m. heck even journe says their 30m elegante can go swimming, though oddly give conflicting answers for the octasport.

just curious if it's that difficult for companies to increase WR. i just find it odd so many brands make sporty styled watches that can't get wet.

AP specifically says that their 50m WR watches are swimmable. I also swam with my RO 15500 with no problems.

i get that, i do too, i'm just wondering why not more companies do it for all but their dressiest pieces. is it a cost issue, a manufacturing issue or just don't see the need.
