OP 34 is hot?

I was looking for the Oyster Perpetual 34mm (reference 124200) for my wife. To my surprise, the SA said they receive very few of those, and also there's a wait list, with management approval required for each sell...

Now, I'm aware of the high demand for the new (well, last year) colorful dials OP in 36 and 41mm.

But the 34 only comes in classical blue, black, silver, etc... And the 34mm diameter would appeal to mostly women or men with smaller wrist (including me, I wear 36, I could wear 34). So the market for 34 mm is definitely much smaller than for 36 or 41mm.

Yet, checking price on Chrono24, I see the watch around 30% above retail, which could qualify as hot, or at least luke warm...

So given the size, I'm wondering what could cause this watch to be in such demand, compared to let's say a DateJust.

I've asked for one. AD said none in stock in my dial selection but didn't say it's considered allocation only.

The hype gangrene has sadly and inevitably spilled over the entire SS range. That's all...

Ok. Go look on Chrono24 or call one of our Trusted Sellers and get the watch you want without much delay. And you can negotiate the price. Good luck.

I’ve seen navy, pink, and silver all in the case in the last two months across two different ADs.

Amen.

I asked about a two tone Datejust and the guy told me they are very hard to come by.

I asked for a 36mm two tone with champagne dial.

Which is crazy.

If SS sports models are the hottest, I thought 2 tone Datejust wouldn't be.

But then again, that specific watch is like a Rolex icon. Just like the black sub.

So who knows.

In my opinion it will take some time for the colored dials heat to calm down. There is always buzz around those beautiful dials and for good reason. I think I am looking for one myself but can not find one for the right price as well. While looking around I found an article that made me realise the hype and price a little more, eventually it helped me realise I need to wait for the hype to die down because it will return far in the future!"A fresh trend that’s been sweeping through the luxury watch space as of late is the brightly colored dial."

I am thinking I wil eventually grab the salmon dial but only if I can get my hands on it for the right price. Which color are you thinking of grabbing?

Oh yeah...word on the street is that Rolex will step the Explorer down to 34mm next year. Then 31mm by 2023:)

Per your profile, is the AD in Singapore? It may be hotter there than other markets.

I've seen black and silver in 34mm in local AD's over the last two days.

Even these ‘undesirables’ don’t last 24-48 hours in a market like Singapore.

Every half decent SA has an army of clients to call or message the moment they receive inventory.

The only thing they worry about is ‘have I called this one too much lately?’.

The hype for those bright dials will eventually wear off a bit... Or not: it seems Rolex is trying to cater to customers looking for less conventional watches. Just look at those new DateJust dials (I like them btw). So only time will tell. I personally think the trend is here to stay.

The so-called "pink" OP34 is also the one I have in mind :) Having seen it with my eyes, I feel it looks more like beige/copper/salmon depending on incident light (sunburst). Very classy. I hope I can post photos very soon.

I'm getting either this one (bold move, maybe for my 40th birthday to celebrate getting old?) or 36mm with Wimbledon dial (more likely).

Hello. Just bought the 36mm in Silver on Monday. I did w lot of research and had to kiss a little arse at the ADs before very luckily getting mine on the day the shops opened in the UK. This Monday.
I also made a point of visiting a lot of the other ADs windows and all I could see were various pieces with diamond dials. A couple of yellow gold YMs and one blue silver OP. This was London. You would think there would be more and maybe was to those with the secret handshake.

They actually did have the 34mm in silver at both Bucherer and Harrods on Knightsbridge.

Because the OP31 in dark blue was hard to get, I decided to get my wife a BB32 instead—roughly half the price. I guarantee it doesn’t cost Rolex twice as much to build a OP31 as it costs Tudor to build a BB32. The margin must be far higher on the Rolex.

I know Tudor and Rolex are separate companies but they have the same owner... Seems like they’d recognize this as a problem. I can understand supply constraints on something like the Daytona or GMT for branding purposes, but I don’t get it on something like a basic-color OP31. It should at least be order-able.
