Top ten selling watches in the USA in $$$$

The top selling watch last year in the USA was Rolex with 1.25 billion dollars in sales in the USA. Second was Citizen with 228 million dollars in sales. Of course will all know unit sales are much different. The rest in order,
3.Seiko
4.Movado
5.Tag
6.Bulova
7.Cartier (a tie with Bulova I believe)
8.Breitling
9.Omega
10.PP

This info came from an American Watch magazine which is sent to dealers. The Citizen rep was just at a jewelery store someone I know is opening. He showed me the article just given to him by the rep. =) maverick

If it's a big boat, why not? I would just dream of the number of Rollies I could then get myself!!

That's the thing. If they were paying you, you couldn't wear another brand.

Given the average wage vs the average cost of a Rolex, it really surprises me that its at No.1

WoW is all I can say.... I thought it'd be some brand like Seiko or Citizen at a guess. Maybe that goes to show that all these 'fashion' branded watches (for eg Kenneth Cole, Gucci, Tommy Hilfiger - hell they are all putting out watches) are having a big play on the market place???

What do you think guys?????

That's a valid point you've made, Amanda. I still would have thought Citizen to be the world's no. 1 seller, but this is America they are talking about....so I guess Rolex is No.1 in the States.

Which is why I suppose, they dont want anyone in the US shipping/importing personal Rolex's into the country. They maintain market monopoly and dictate the going prices for their goods.

I'm extremely surprised to see PP on the list. I know the average cost is very high, and that makes up for the limited number sold, but I still didn't think it would place it that high up the list.

On the other hand, although Timex and Casio watches are very inexpensive, I thought that those brands may break into the top 10 on the sheer volume of watches sold. Just about every kid and every athlete has had a Casio or Timex to time their events, runs, etc.

I'd love to see an article that also showed the actual number of units sold for the top 25 companies.

I was in a jeweler the other day looking at some IWC models and they had RADO watches. I can honestly say that if they offered to GIVE me one, I would have passed on the offer, unless I thought I could have flipped it the same day!

Doc, if they offered to give you one, rest assured that you'd end up paying someone to get rid of it!

$$

If I'm reading that correctly it's top ten in $$$ in sales.

Timex may sell more watches but @ $25 each they're not in the top 10 in terms of $$ in sales.

You don't have to sell as many Rollies @ $5K each to be number.

Let me know if I'm on track here?

I once saw an article about Citizen that indicated it was the top selling brand (by money) worldwide, and Seiko was second. If I can find that article I'll scan it and post it.

I'm just so thrilled Panerai isn't in the top 10... over even top 20, I'd guess.
