Navitimer or Super Ocean Heritage …

I’ve got a Breitling store credit and I’m narrowing my choices down to a Navitimer or a SuperOcean heritage …
One is an icon of the brand but has an ETA based movement ( albeit greatly enhanced by Breitling )
The other has the B20 movement - (an awesome Tudor movement ).

Generally speaking which watch would be more respected ….the one with icon status or the “Better” movement ….

Ok …I have to tweak my question a bit …
The Navitimer I’m interested in is the stripped down 41mm watch…
It is not a chronograph and that’s why it has an ETA movement …

I’m now wondering if this slimpified version would still qualify as an iconic Navitimer …( my guess is not…)

Now if that Navitimer was the chrono …..different story

Yeah, for me personally it's all or nothing for the Navitimer. The Chronograph version is the only one I would take, but that's just me.

With that being said, my vote also goes for the SuperOcean Heritage!

My husband (when he got home from work ) says the same thing …
I already have two chronographs- aBreguet type xx, and a breitling chronograph from 1946, so I really don’t need another chronograph ….so an awesome dive watch would work well for my collection.

Get the Superocean on the mesh bracelet and then add the mesh rubber and a NATO strap and you’ll be all set. I tend to wear mine mostly on the mesh rubber strap since it’s so comfortable.

I think the Soh will be my best choice. I like the fact it houses a reliable Tudor movement, it’s solid enough for ALL activities and it can dress up to- more so then most other divers out there . I also appreciate the nod to Breitlings history .

It certainly sounds as if the SuperOcean Heritage checks all the boxes for you, Michelle! Variety is key, and you've got a great collection going. It's an incredibly versatile piece and when you do want a Chronograph you've got two to chose from.

Looking forward to the pictures once you've picked it up!

The ETA movement would not be a consideration to me. I have 6 Rolex, and my Breitling Superocean 42 with the Breitling 17 movement (modified ETA) keeps better time than my Rolex or Cartier, at about + 1 per week.

So after wearing the SOH for a week , I find I love its “look”- a classy watch with a basic timing bezel ! But…. It can’t be considered a dive watch - it has minimal lume and the bezel markings are so simplified , they’d be hard to read in darkness (like deep water!)
The dial is legible in low light for sure! But not in darkness .
Breitling is marketing this watch as a tribute to their original dive watch ….I don’t get it .
My husbands super ocean 44 - that’s a dive watch! Although he finds the lume to be barley adequate in darkness on land ; under water would be challenging I think .

Great observations there, Michelle. Although both are fantastic watches I could see how those points might deter someone who actually wear the piece for aquatic activities.

Lucky for Breitling that the vast majority of owners won't be doing these things. The irony is, one of the most inexpensive watches in my collection (Seiko Monster) has the best lume. For snorkeling even this can come in handy.

Still two fantastic watches though!
