Santos de Cartier Shortage

Hi all,

I’ve been informed by my local Cartier boutique and also separate AD that there is a shortage of the Santos, especially in the large size.

Has anyone else heard the same thing? I’m waiting for clarification if it’s related due to the global supply chain/covid issues.

Bought mine a couple months ago from the boutique in VA and they were in short supply then according to the sales gal. Glad I didn’t wait, it’s a spectacular piece and very comfortable for daily wear.

Interesting thread timing! I was in my AD a few weeks ago and they had the large in stock, called today to pull the trigger and he said I would be 3rd in line to order one in, probably 2-3 months out

Haha I was thinking about parting ways with my blue dial Santos large. I think I’ll hold onto it for a bit and see how all this plays out. It is indeed a lovely watch, but I’ve been having difficulty giving it the wrist time it deserves with my other pieces.

Thank you both for chiming in. I saw Australian ADs are having difficulty sourcing the Santos as well in a separate post elsewhere.

I haven’t noticed a shortage. Bought me a DLC Santos (large) on rubber two weeks ago in Northern VA. Actually, a few ADs had them on display along with a few other large Santos models.

Cartier is all the rage right now. That said, you can legit order the large or medium today on Cartier’s website so if you’re inclined.

Same at my AD, there are no Santos available for sale and there’s actually a “list” smh. Last time they had one in display was about 6 months ago.

I bought a Large earlier this year (May) and back then it took about 3 months for me. I got in just prior to the price increase.

Order mine (SS medium) through a grey dealer, took 3 months and had 12% discount. I am in Switzerland.

I saw that too. Part of me thinks there’s probably a delay with shipping. Wouldn’t make sense if the boutiques and ADs are having difficulty sourcing, but readily available on their Cartier’s site.

I got the medium from my AD last week, and they've been getting them steadily throughout the week. But the demand is steady enough such that they don't need to discount the piece any more. They did sweeten the pot slightly with a free strap order. Plenty of them floating around on the grey market however.

I have seen them marked as out of stock before or whatever term they use. I believe you will get it shipped quick. I ordered my wife a Cartier (not santos) and it arrived overnight no charge.

Cartier would be wise to hold more inventory for e commerce where they enjoy a significantly higher margin.

I think aside from being a great iconic watch for a reasonable price all sorts of wannabe greys buy up the santos from ADs as spend pieces as they are a relatively easy mover.

When I bought my ADLC bezel/grey dial Santos in the beginning of June, I was told I wouldn't have it until likely September, but I got a call at the end of June that it had come in and managed to snag it just before the price increase went into effect.

I bought the large in May, and then the medium for my wife in September. Had to wait about a month for the medium, and my AD told me they can't keep the Santos in stock, as they are sold as fast as he gets them in. I noticed on Chrono 24 that they are now selling about 1K over MSRP.

Been waiting over 2 months for additional straps that I ordered.

Thinking of getting his/hers, TT for wife and for me I am debating between medium or large in SS. Anyone have pics or thoughts on theirs?

I am about to pull the trigger on a blue one. Selling a PAM000 for it that has sat in the drawer since I got my SD43 last year.

Their availability waxes and wanes. I bought a blue dial last year at a discount and, within a couple of months, they were nowhere to be found. Then they hit the market again and now it seems that they're in lower supply. Not sure if it's indicative of a long-term trend or short-term supply issue.

I've noticed this happens with certain Cartier watches. They come and go from AD's/boutiques and the online store. I'm guessing it's scheduled manufacturing runs for various watches. This doesn't seem to happen as much with the quartz movements vs the automatics and manual wind watches.

Santos Blue been available on the official site

https://www.cartier.com/en-us/watche...RWSSA0030.html

Just for the fun of it and checking the availability, I was able to add 5 pieces in the shopping cart. Don't believe in the hype

My contact mentioned Cartier’s production is strained overall given the supply chain woes. The large Santos are able to be ordered still, but have a couple month lead time. I know the Santos is their most popular watch currently.

The online store will sometimes run out of stock. Point being, it’s available with a wait so don’t pay any mark ups.

I ordered the grey dialed ADLC bezel version in late September and was about quoted one month for delivery but still waiting. It's probably not their volume model.

No mark ups but no concessions either.
