Broken glass

Last night I looked down and the crystal was broken...I have no idea what I hit or how it happened. Wouldn’t it take a good punch to bust it like that?

Seems like the date wheel is broken too as yesterday was the 3rd.

I have banged my crystal on all sorts of hard objects and no scratches or chips yet (except a tiny one on the edge that was there when I bought it). I presume if it was hit in the right spot it could break rather easily.

Well congrats on a well worn sub. But from the looks was gouged. I may ask the kids what happened lol.

I had a sub on and caught it on a circular saw, it flew off like a rocket smashed into a concrete wall, crystal was perfect, band and case was damaged.

Dunno, just invite me to the next party you go to.

Judging by how the rest of the watch looks a broken crystal isn't really out of place here... Sorry...

If your hands and dial are damaged things will get expensive soon. And from my experience with servicing these things I'd say at least half of them need a new dial.

I'm not buying it. The date say's 12. Yesterday, by all accounts was the 4th.

Hi Jim, I have no intentions to sell the watch so I agree your not buying it.

All I was wondering if anyone else had experienced a broken crystal.

As for the date, I turned the dial to make sure it still worked after noticing the busted crystal. Thanks for your most insightful input.

I’ve done it walking with the dog lead, swinging in one arm and totally shattered the glass to pieces.

I’m shocked i haven’t had a similar experience. I swear i smack my wrist against the corner of the granite counter the other day. On the positive note, looking at that bracelet might be an indicator it’s time for a service. It’s clearly been worn for a while with that stretch. Let them fix the crystal, service the watch and freshen up the bracelet and it should go another 20 years.

I’ve chipped crystals, but not that kind of damage. Some have already recommended that you quickly hack the movement to reduce possible secondary damage to the same, and hands/dial/date wheel. Shards of class are largely invisible and can wreak havoc in the watch.

I don’t think you’re supposed to move anything on the dial when the crystal cracks like that. I think you could scratch the dial with the tiny chards, you could even get some chards in the movement.
