Would you do this trade for a 5711?

Considering 5711 is discontinued, would you trade a new GMT Pepsi Oyster and a 3.5 years old 116500LN white dial + 50,000 EUR for a 2009 5711/1a? After writing this in, I do feel that two nice watches and a lot of cash just gets you a 2009 5711.

I am attaching a photo of a 5712 on my wrist to give you a bit of an idea of how a 5711 would fit on my wrist.

Thanks so much!

Haha true... but getting what you like by letting go what you also like, makes it a bit harder to decide, hence this post !

I assume you got the Daytona and the Pepsi because you like them. If you have to trade them away to fund a preowned 5711 with an extra 50k in cash you cannot really afford that one just yet IMHO. Different story of course if you do want to get rid of your Rolexes anyway but they look good on you.

I've done exactly that, plus an AP Royal Oak 37mm. No regrets at all. The 5711 has been my grail for more than 15 years and now I use it every day.

I would if it´s really the watch of your dreams.

If this trade leaves you with only the 5711 without others to rotate I wouldn´t.

my two cents:

1. you might get away with paying less than EUR 50k in cash addon. 40k should be feasible.

2. i think in many watch lovers (myself included!) there is a desire to have the watch you wear be a subtle but firm expression of your financial potential. Of course, if you spread your watch budget over multiple pieces, then each piece you wear is far below what you could actually afford. So, if this plays any role in the consideration, then i would say, go for it and wear the heavy hitter rightfully with pride. However make sure in this case that the watch is properly insured so that a theft or loss does not cause unduly headaches or heartbreaks.

Would you do this trade for a 5711?

Thanks so much guys. I’m heavily thinking this trade.
I could get a 5712 but like in 1-2 years and then the 5711 will be much more expensive.

I’m really not sure about Patek not bringing back this complication in blue in 2026 (50th anniversary). Still 5 years to go to find out.

For those asking:

I’d be left with:

2020 new card hulk.
2021 new jubilee SkyD blue.
2021 overseas dual time silver.
2021 panerai due gmt power reserve.

I think you will regret the decision after the initial excitement wears off. 5711 is nice, but so are the 116500 and the GMT. To add 50k of cash on top is literally begging the grey dealer to rip you off.

50K plus two highly in demand Rolex for a 12 year old watch? No way.

I’d almost rather lease this watch from a friend for 1,500 a month to get it out of my system. And if it’s still in my system, then take the plunge.

Do it. I think that works out to paying 95,000 euros for the 5711. Production of the 5711 is over while Daytonas and GMTs are being cranked out by the thousands every month. Getting back into either of those watches is no problem.

I’ll say value-wise that’s decent for current market values. I’d shop the deal around to other dealers and bet you can get it for the trades plus 40-50k EUR for a newer model 5711. I don’t know at what price they’re moving but the cheapest 5711/1a-010 full sets I’m seeing advertised are listed around $115k USD. So figure $35k value and $20k value for your trades and that’s what you’ve got.

As others have said, buy what you love. I love my 5711 but that’s a lot of coin.

5711 blue is one of my all time favorite watches but you’re giving up too much, IMO.

Here is the math
Your Daytona trades around 34k
GMT Oyster Pepsi around 22k
50k cash = 106k
The 2009 5711 trades around there.
Fair trade money-wise.

However I still wouldn't do it.

5711 = boring overhyped watches.

Boring for what it currently costs that is (before anyone stones me alive).

At least the 5712 offers something a bit more interesting. But even that is overpriced.

I have a 116500 LN just like you and a vintage 1675 GMT. I'd much rather have that and the money. You could buy a lovely 3940 which imv is a much more interesting Patek. Still have change.

50k is a lot of cash. I would rather buy a calatrava and a WG daytona on OF and keep the others. I love the 5711 and 5712 but the prices are so far out of wack. I let the idea of owning either go a while ago.

A big no. Just wait for the 5712 if you are getting one from an AD.

Heck no. The 5711 isn’t that great of a watch. It was my grail for a while as well, but there are more fish in the sea.

That Patek is quite old so i assume it is factory service sealed at that VERY high price they are asking.

When was it last serviced as it is eleven years old? i sure hope this isn't yet another service-delayed Patek so you have to pay and wait... and wait.

I prefer the 5711 to both of your rolex.

Not sure I would be happy about a 5711 that is 12 years old?

For the price I would think you could get a newer example… but in the end of condition is perfect then I guess it doesn’t matter.

Agree 5711 over 5712 if for no other reason, the better water resistance…ie the 5711 can do what your Daytona and gmt does.

Btw: make sure you are dealing with a reputable seller!
A friend has a counterfeit 5711 and it is insanely close to perfect.

Honestly, I don't see the point in having a 5711 and 5712 (no offense to those that do); especially if it means upending your collection in order to do so.
