Rolex Price Trends from 1957 to 2008
This link gives an interesting chart on how Rolex prices have moved over the past 51 years.
The author does attribute some component of the price increase to the depreciating US$. http://www.minus4plus6.com/PriceEvolution.htm |

Interesting. I was scanning the same chart immediately before checking this forum.
I'll be seeing a family friend this summer who has been wearing the same GMT since I've known him. He might have bought it in the '60s. And knowing him, he has the original box, receipt, papers. I have planned on offering him ten times what he paid for the watch, should the conversation come up. I recall him telling me last year that his jeweler has been pestering him to buy the watch. |

You should try to grab it. It would be a great buy.

I wonder if the prices for Rolex watches will continue to increase in the future as they have in he past.

I do not remember the exact year gold dropped it's fixed value but in 1970 it was still $35/oz. I remember in Switzerland in 1970 a President sold for about $850.

As long as central banks keep devaluing the currency (aka inflation), prices will go up accordingly.

Wow!
I just looked at a 1990 GMT at a local store, they were asking $4600 for which I thought was a fair price. Looks like it originally retailed for $2850 |
