Incoming 1675 Pepsi

Just acquired this 1675 Pepsi. I've been wanting this watch for a while, and my general rule is if I've want a watch badly enough for long enough, then I should just pull the trigger - so I did. Debated between a pristine 16700, a 16750 (could target birth year on that one), or the 1675. For me, the 1675 felt just right, and it was the only one that really scratched the itch. I love the patina that you get with a 1675 that cannot be matched by a watch with with the white gold borders on the hour markers. I spent a bunch of time looking for one that was as "original" as possible, or at least all period appropriate (no way to know for sure these days if a watch is all original unless it's a one owner watch and you are the one owner...).

Here's what I ended up with! Mk1 "Long E" dial with very nice patina on the hour markers, with matching patina on the hands, beautifully faded bezel, serial number in the 2.49m range dates it at ~1970 and clasp code says "2 72". Seller claimed to be the 2nd owner (as told to him by the dealer who sold him the watch).

Now I've got the vintage Rolex bug... and that could end up being a problem (I'm already shopping for a 5513). But I feel pretty good about the resale value of these watches.

If there's one thing about the watch that I would change, it is that the minute hand is bent upwards slightly and it's definitely noticeable to me when the light hits it the right way. I would much rather have the original hand in bent form vs. having a replacement hand though. Currently debating having the hand straightened out (I emailed Rolliworks and LAWW to see what they can do), but I'm a bit worried about something happening to the lume in the process. Open to feedback btw if anyone else has ever had something like this fixed.

In the meantime, I'll just keep droooooling over my newest addition

That watch is stunning OP. Fret not, a good restorer will tone match the lume perfectly for you. Just like paint they mix shades until the exact shade is found.

Congrats, the 1675 is a true icon. It's truly amazing how no 2 1675s or any vintage piece are alike, it what makes 4 digits so special in my mind. As much as I love modern Rolex as well, the only boring thing is once you seen 1 new Pepsi, Daytona or Kermit you've seen them all.

Thanks for the input. I would prefer not to have to touch the lume at all, which is why I hesitate to even get it fixed. For a 50 year old watch, one could make the argument that it’s actually a positive signal that the previous owner(s) kept it all original. That said, if it can be straightened out without damaging the lume, I would do it.
