Advice from ship cruise veterans

We are leaving on a multi week cruise and I’m having a hard time deciding how many watches to bring. I will be bringing a Casio for any land based activity but would really like to bring several of my Rolexes, especially because we will be celebrating Xmas and New Years aboard.
Any advice appreciated!

I usually bring 3 watches along on a cruise that's a week long. I'll bring something on a rubber strap for walking around the islands and beach excursions or wear my Sub. I'll also pack my Datejust 2 usually for dinners.

Thanks…I am considering 3 watches in addition to a Casio as well…I have a piece on Oysterflex for a rubber option…appreciate the feedback!

Not sure why a Casio is the land-based choice Mine is usually an Explorer II.

We will be on a cruise next week as well. Hawaii was cancelled, so a default couple of weeks will be spent up and down the west coast and down to Cabo.

I will wear a black Explorer II during the day, no matter where we are, and a gold GMT will be evening wear. I am waffling about a Day Date for formal nights since there will be 3 of them for this trip. Probably make that decision last minute.

Probably afraid of getting robbed, in which case OP is better off just not bringing any expensive pieces.

Keep in mind that stateroom safes are relatively small, so use smallest possible travelcases for your watches.

Your cruises may be the highlight of the year, wear the best possible watches - just like I do!

Partly that but also to keep a low profile…and I actually like my Casioak

2 watches at a minimum for me - but generally 3!

Exactly! I want to enjoy my watches. I have a watch roll and some watch pods. My roll has always fit in hotel safes, hoping the ship’s safe is similar in size??

I use a double watch roll and have never had an issue fitting in a cruise room safe.

Just 1 watch for me when I travel and it never comes off my wrist. I’m very forgetful and would probably leave it on the ship. 14060M.

Good question as the itinerary is changing almost daily, but the western Caribbean…

I take 3-4 usually.

One “beater” dive watch, my trusty Sieko PADI and 3 Rolexes. I’ll wear the Rolexes on tours and when out and about on ship. I’ll wear the Sieko for the beach/scuba/snorkeling and pool side.

Usually that means one on the wrist on the plane, and 3 in a case that fits nicely in hotel and cruise cabin safes.

Appreciate it! I’ve settled on that number as well…now just need to decide which to leave home…

for cruises specifically, I just bring one "nice" watch for maritime activities and one "beater" for when we're on land

I usually wear one and carry two others. For me, it certainly isn't needed, I just love wearing a different watch every couple days. I do the same at home, why not when I travel.

Have you tried celebrating without a watch on? You can’t tell the difference...

Same here, which is why I was interested in bringing a few…especially since we’ll be gone for over 3 weeks…

I may be cast out of TRF for not using a fancy travel roll case thing, but anytime I fly, I always carry a light weight change of clothes in a small carry on with a watch(es) rolled in a sock(s) wrapped in the clothes. I feel it is very protected (padding wise) and inconspicuously concealed from the ultra stealthy thieves that have the ability to reach and feel during a quick passing.

I agree.

I mean, why even buy a watch at all?

Or why even visit a forum where enthusiasts discuss them?

Nah. I wrap mine in the cleaning cloths that come with them, and then put them all in a $15 watch holder small enough to tuck into the bottom of my carryon. No need for expensive cases as long as they aren’t smacking together.

I have done 2 Costa Med cruises, wore my Omega SeaMaster (only one watch) on both. I don't travel with a Rolex internationally anymore but I did in the 90s.

Thanks for all the feedback. Went to the safe deposit box today to store the watches that didn’t make the cut, so no turning back now. I’ve settled on 3 plus my Casio.
I will post my experience when I return in case anyone has similar questions on the subject in the future.
Thanks all for your feedback and wishing everyone a safe and happy holiday season

OP here…just returned from our 3 week Regent Christmas cruise and thought I’d post my experience for others who might have the same questions in the future…The safe in our State Room was ginormous so no issue there.
I brought 3 Rolex and a Casioak. I could have easily worn any watch on shore excursions because almost all Caribbean islands aren’t allowing independent shore leave. However I wore the Casio exclusively on land.
It was great to have a rotation on the ship and next time I will probably bring an additional watch (note this was a 3 week cruise).
Hope this helps…

Wow, 3 week cruise!
Sounds interesting.
Care to share any details about where you went?

It was actually amazing. Did the Caribbean down through St. Martin. Not really a cruise person, but if anyone wants next level service, take a look at Regent…really impressed.
BTW, I grew up outside Rochester and Mom lives in Naples
