Rolex 126710 BLRO Pepsi Worth Premium?
Hi everyone. I’m new to the forum. I’m thinking of purchasing a Pepsi on the grey market for around £17,500.00 as realistically I don’t think I’m ever going to get one from the AD!. My question isn’t is it worth the premium, more is it likely to hold that market value? Am I likely to loose any money on it! Welcome your advice!

agree that chance of getting one from an AD is very slim here, great watch and who knows in terms of value - could go either way...

Premium worth it? Only you can make that call
Hold value ? Depends in your time horizon. If you hold for next 50 years you will likely come out ahead. If you are looking to sell within 3 years, no idea - you could take a beating in it or sell at slight premium |

How much do you like it and how much are you willing to pay for it? I can't tell you what suits you. Nobody can. Another question which only you can answer is if you believe you are genuinely listed with an AD who will deliver at some point, of if you're just being brushed off. You need to be 100% confident that you won't be offered one at MSRP next month.
I love the Pepsi and I was fortunate to get one at MSRP after waiting 15 months. It's a fantastic watch. Like the BLNR, it looks so much better on your wrist than you can imagine if you have only seen photos. The one I got this October was the best rendition of blue and red I have seen so far, lacking the purple and pink hues that went before, and it is up to the usual Rolex standards of comfort, build quality and perceived value. Is it worth £10k over MSRP? Not to me. But I'm not you. I have bought two of my Rolex watches on the grey market, both at about 25% over MSRP. Back then it was worth it to me to get two watches I loved that no AD would list me for. I wouldn't pay today's grey asking prices for either. But again, that's what I wouldn't do, not you. |

If you want it get it. I bought mine at MRSP and thought it was expensive for a steel watch. At the moment I am enjoying my £720 - 20% discount Seiko Alpinist much more! If you look at the risk of the price crashing, just look at it like buying a new car. In 3 years the car will depreciate 60% of its MRSP and if you consider the number sold each year millions of us are prepared to loose this on cars and then do it again and again very 3 years. You buying the GMT above MRSP is currently a lesser risk and even if it goes to just under MRSP, it is still a much smaller loss than depreciation on a car.

if its a must to you, get it at grey market price. otherwise, its not worth the premium.

I wanted the watch for years. When it was finally my turn, I go the watch at retail and was surprisingly underwhelmed by it. Maybe I hyped it up too much. It sat in the box unworn for 2 years as the value kept going up. Recently, I took it out of the box and wore it on a business trip and now I love the watch. I know this doesn't help at all.
If this is going to be your only Rolex I would go for a black sub. Better everyday colors than the superman look and the best bracelet in the business. Plus, lower price at the grey market. |

If it’s a watch you plan to own and enjoy, the price is the price and it’s worth it.
If you have to ask whether it’ll hold its value then I think you’ve answered your own question and it’s not worth it. |

Buy the watch because you love you it and not for investment purposes, would be my advice. Obviously it’s always a nice little bonus if the watch appreciates over time, but don’t let that be the reason for purchasing. You’re buying a Rolex, you’re buying into something!

If you need a true GMT complication I don’t think there’s a better watch out there. If you’re interested in the history or collect then I think the extra money is justifiable. And if you have the means then I would go for it because it is really an awesome piece.
That said, having been fortunate enough to get one through my AD, it’s not a $20,000+ watch. The Tudor GMT in my opinion is a better watch if you had to pay double the retail price vs a BLRO. But it just sits on (my) wrist like a brick and the BLRO is perfection in terms of how it wears. Value wise who knows if you’ll win or lose. Real gamble is likely only if you decide to sell it in the near future. Long term you’ll be fine, will hopefully get enough enjoyment out of the ownership experience and who cares what it’s worth at that point. This post is of zero help. Welcome. Based on your post, the AD has likely determined you aren’t a suitable customer. As such, your best alternative is to go grey. The watch is expensive… but will retain more value than typical luxury purchases.

Although I love my BLRO, I would not have paid market for it. I know it might be silly to some, but I would have moved on to another watch if I was unable to obtain it at retail. I do not feel that it is worth the premium, but it is a fantastic watch.

I have a very large collection including many PM pieces… I wear my Pepsi’s 75% of the time if not more.

The price you are willing to pay for any item, whether it be a Rolex, car, diamond, or a bicycle is purely based on your propensity to spend. And to that point, there are many factors that determine that: from one end of the spectrum (losing your job and no savings left) to the other (winning the Powerball lottery.)
On those two instances, the decision is easy. It only becomes difficult if you find yourself right smack in the middle of the spectrum. (i.e. Single Income with young kids). A person who knows little about expensive timepieces would be flabbergasted to know the kind of coin some members on this forum throw for these watches. However, I know many members here would be shocked to find out that good race bikes ridden by middle-aged weekend cyclists costs $12,000. Your money, your propensity to spend, your decision. P.s. I have an Economics degree. . |

I'll pay what Rolex says $9,700 MSRP from my AD. Anything else is manmade BS. I'm not against Grey Market I personally won't waste my money.

Paying market value on a Rolex is idiotic, in my opinion.

Well said! My sentiments exactly! I've been on the hunt for one at a couple of AD's for nearly 2 years now. If I can't get one new from them, I guess I won't be owning this. As much as I would love to have one, it's simply not worth 2.5x the MSRP price to me. For the next person, if it's worth it to you....I say go for it!

I wanted one so I bought it grey. It has appreciated since to the point I’d get back what I paid if I ever chose to part with it..which is unlikely. If you want one go get it if you have the means.

All that matters is if you're ok with paying the price and what it's "worth" to you.
I think it's one of the best references out there. |

At current gray prices, no. $1000 over MSRP maybe.

For me, not at the current prices — I’d rather have something else (and did get something else—a older 80s GMT II and a Lange 1815 for a little more (or moderate more) than a new BLRO). If the BLRO was maybe 50-75% more than MSRP I probably would have gotten it though. That’s just the valuation I placed on it; everyone is of course different.

Welcome to the form!
Personally, whether you buy it from an AD for MSRP or from a secondary dealer for a premium, I think it is best to assume that it will NOT hold its value whatsoever. If you still feel good about the purchase with that assumption, then I would say at that point it is then 'worth it'. |

For that money, I’d rather get a really nice 1675/0 Pepsi with a matte dial from a reputable vintage dealer. It’s definitely cooler than the modern blro (even though I do love that one too) and you likely will never lose money on it.

Not worth it.
Wait to get one from AD. And ignore all the obnoxious people bragging today about their Xmas gifts. Happy holidays! |
