Taking it for a test drive

"Dad, I want this when I'm 10."

He knows it's his eventually - but slow your roll, my man! I must say though, it looks great on him.

I told him finish college and it's all yours then.

Brought a smile to my heart. Thanks for sharing.

Reminds me of when my son first asked if he could help me pick out a watch. His favorites are the reverso and SS Daytona. Nice taste.

1) Sashimi looks great!

2) the GMT doesn't fit him much differently than some other pictures I've seen on TRF!

Cool that he's into cars and watches.

Cool pic. It looks great on him. Nice of you to give him encouragement on his upcoming education, and something to look forward too.

That sushi looks good!
Where here in bay area?

That GMT looks great on his wrist, and will be an awesome graduation present.

My parents offered to buy me a Rolex for med school graduation, but I declined, wanting to buy one for myself someday.

My son now wants "his" watch before even he graduates from kindergarten...

Great shot! My dad used to let me wear his watch when I was ten.

That's sweet of you. Except college don't mean nothing nowadays. My son ain't getting one til he gets a job where he can take me on dinners, start showing some gratitude, pay old dad back for all that I gave him. lol.

Then BAM, here's my GMT.

Lose it and i'll kill you.

Dayum, that's a hard no. As in "Hard to say no."

It looks great and he looks happy. I hope his interest in watches continues - I think it will.

Keep us updated through the years

Thanks for the kind words, all! He and his younger brother have shown a keen interest in watches, which of course I've tried to foster and love that about them.

Here's our youngest playing with his future watch.

I think that's what it is truly about, passing down your Rolex to Son or Daughter. I have 3 boys and 2 Rolex, I just need one more.

Sounds like a ‘How to clean a Rolex’ thread opportunity.

+1, lots of ways to achieve success without college. I was pressured into it and it was a waste in terms of setting me up career-wise. I'm instilling in my son the value of connecting with your work over chasing societal/cultural expectations.

Funny - my wife and I actually had this discussion after I took the shot of my son at the restaurant.

We both hold graduate-level degrees so education is big for us, but I also told my son it's more about that next milestone after high school - be it college / wedding / finding that dream job - that's what's truly important. Finding value in his life and cultivating it; not so much a 4-year degree. Of course, if we have it our way, college comes first!
