Cardboard Coffin???

Are all the new Rolex watches coming in a cardboard coffin with a sticker on the side with the model, price and serial # on it? Thanks

Cardboard coffin yes, the sticker is normally something the supplying AD would put on.

It is so flimsy.. I felt that a cigarette box is more secure than the cardboard box that Rolex uses as the coffin. Not very professional for such a brand in my opinion.

cardboard doesnt have any barcode or an price. Behind the cardboard has the warranty card and below the cardboard is the tag

Like many manufacturers, I suspect Rolex is trying to reduce the amount of plastic in their packaging. Personally I have no problem with that. I certainly wouldn’t question Rolex’s “professionalism” over it. But that’s just me.

My BLRO came on the cardboard coffin as well. The AD then puts it in the Rolex Box.

I think a better way of putting it would be that Rolex (almost certainly) ships the watches and boxes separately to the AD. Which makes a TON of sense. Shippers pay based on both weight and dimensions, and if the boxes were sent with the watches, shipping costs would climb astronomically due to the services (likely) being used to ship actual watches vs. boxes.

What I can say for certain is that a watch isn't tied to a specific box, just a specific size. I've been in ADs where someone is buying a watch and hearing one SA ask another to go get grab a specific size box from the back.

I mean, it's the styrofoam that protects the watch... the cardboard is basically just there to hold it in place.

My AD sent me a photo of my watch in the coffin last year as soon as it arrived in his store. The coffin is plastic. Whether or not it had been in a cardboard outer sleeve is something I do not know.

This was in May 2021.

My last three AD Rolex watches came in the cardboard box. I'm glad to see the end of unnecessary plastic packaging. I personally don't care what it comes in so long as it's not damaged and is obviously brand new. They can recycle the cardboard box locally, every little helps. It's just freight packaging.

If you think it's too flimsy to be presentable, perhaps ask your AD to note that you want your Rolex presented in the beige and green dealer supplied presentation box? They should be able to accommodate you.

I'm sure that if my wife wants another AD supplied watch they will bring it out, presentation boxed if I ask them to. She's getting a pen next month which will be handed over in gift wrap with a ribbon around it and a card, by prior request from me.

The booklets don’t come with the watches? Would have thought they did because those are series-specific, unlike the boxes.

I believe the switch was some time last summer. I received a watch around when you did and it came in plastic. However there was a thread here a short time later about the change. Good observation.

Bought my JC in March of this year, was in cardboard; maybe Rolex switched to make it technically recyclable? Or just saved a few bucks, obviously the brand is in dire shape right now so reducing costs makes sense

I think cost and environmental considerations were probably it here, but a few others occurred to me:

1. Cardboard easier to store at factory since it’s flat and a single piece.
2. Cardboard can be more tamper evident, and these are harder to put the watch back into perfectly to fake a factory seal.
