Well if Brink's doesn't offer any compensation over and above the stated value, it's going to be a huge PR disaster- probably already is.

Sounds like an inside job or those criminals planned that out perfectly.

They needed to stop at a rest area for a THIRTY MINUTE travel time to Pasadena? And left the truck completely unaccompanied?
LOL you can’t be serious that anybody would believe this isn’t an inside job, how obvious. This is almost like a comedy movie, however it’s unfortunate because some of those businesses might go out now, since everything was uninsured. Unreal |

Jeweler says it’s worth 150M insurance says 10M sounds about right based on my experience.

Laughed out loud over 'in accordance with the terms of our contract'. I'd be surprised if they pay more than the insured amount the shipper states. How many times have we under insured a package?

Jewelers always over inflate values. They probably used some kind of ideal retail price for the valuation of whatever was stolen.

Sounds like its one of those traveling lowball buyer people. The "bring your heirlooms out for a free appraisal/offer type deal."
My guess is they had invested $10M and estimated the retail value to be 100-150. And expect the insurance to cover their potential gains, not just their loss of investment. |

I love how people always tend to pay the least amount they can to guard/protect the things that supposedly matter most to them.
And then wonder what happened.

Not a happy story, but end of the day there’s no such thing as free money in business. If you want to operate with high margins, bargain basement costs, and a laissez-faire attitude toward crazy tail risks like this.. you may end up having a bad time ![]() |

Wonder if Anthony (aka booty call Tony) has been moonlighting as an armored truck driver.

I worked on the ramp in the mid 90’s at a busy airport. There was an airline baggage handling crew that could get you anything you needed. Golf clubs were their forte. However what I didn’t know was they were into way bigger things than golf clubs. They knew all the Alias’ labels for all big luxury brands. Cartier came to mind. Since the manifest was readily available they knew exactly what to hit every time. They told me it was all insured for weight and dimensions not value at the airline. A year or two later they got busted with a warehouse of goods they had rented to fence out of. The cops bought $300k (seems a little excessive but..) worth of items before they made the bust.
They tried to keep it all hush hush as to not deter business. However the delays that ensued because 2 crews were all mysteriously missing off the schedule all of a sudden caught the media’s attention. I’m not sure about the values that were insured but I do believe the truth is somewhere in between. |

I thought Brinks trucks always had at least 3 armed guards -- one driving, one in the passenger seat, and one locked in the back with the goods. Also, I thought there was some "rule" that at least one guard had to stay with the truck if they ever had to stop (like to go to the restroom). If so, then for the truck to be unattended...

Agree this was an inside job and will be very surprised if it is not solved.
