Tudor vs ?

Tiring of the Rolex games and looking for a casual watch to mix it up. Opinions on Tudor vs Omega?

I’ll probably be stoned in the public court of opinion on this forum, but I have owned several tudors and omegas over my watch obsession, I mean hobby, in addition to the various Rolex pieces I’ve owned. Honestly, I always found my tudors to be rather plain and boring. They never remained in the collection for long. The omegas were less boring, but damnit they were just too big and thick. I regret trading my first omega, an AT grey teak dial. Flipped it towards a bluesy.

I have found my perfect omega, newer seamaster 300 blue dial. I love everything about the watch, the size, thickness, color. The blue really pops in the sun, and it looks almost black at night. I love the push button extension in the clasp, more than the glide lock on my sub41 date. I hate the bracelet on it tho. Wish it had a taper on it like Rolex and maybe a more oyster style like some of the other omegas, but I can live with it as I love the bezel and the dial. The tudors seem blah to me.

The new pelagos 39 is nice, and I like the new clasp they incorporated, but I’ve never been a fan of the snowflake markers/hands. I like the seamaster with its round hour markers and I like skeleton hands.

I’ve owned so many watches over the years, so many. All that remains is the seamaster 300, sub41 date, 16710, and my John wick watch. Not to mention some seikos and orients, a Hamilton and a steinhart. But the 16710 and seamaster get most of the wrist time.

End of the day tho, it comes down to personal preferences. Some people like apples, others like oranges. I like what I like, and you like what you like.

I think the above is a good answer. I have both Tudor and omega in my collection. Love both. I think Tudor is more plain looking whereas the omegas have more polished surfaces if that floats your boat. Omegas generally are on a different pricing level to Tudor if that’s a consideration.

As above, it comes down to what you like. I think Tudor are the best value on the street currently - I’m lucky enough to have 4 (including the panda chrono and pelagos 39).

As these are all generally available in AD’s, just try a few on and see what sings to you.

I feel that Tudor is still searching for its identity while Omega is Omega. Omega’s innovation, quality, branding, history, etc is more special

I've owned 2 Tudors (Black bay Chrono and Blue BB58) and 3 Omegas (last gen SMPc, current gen Planet Ocean and Speedmaster), great watches but I have sold all but 4 of the 5 and currently only have a Speedie 3861 left. Even this one is on the potential list to be moved on for something new.

Tudor make great watches, very good designs and quality for the money you pay. But, Omega (IMO) make better watches. There is just something about the finish and the feel of Omega which is better than Tudor. Much in the same way there is a difference between Omega and Rolex - again all IMO.

You should always go for the one you love to wear the most.

Tudor is the best value for the money. Omega and Rolex are in the similar rank for luxury timepieces.

I have and like both, but prefer Tudor. I tend to like more casual, toolish watches as daily wearers.

I recommend you head down to Adler’s on Canal St, talk to my buddy Adam, buy a Tudor (or several) from him.

Both Omega and Tudor are great brands with some nice offerings. Why not look at it as which Tudor and which Omega could be added to my collection. I would go with the Speedmaster from Omega first, 3861 or 1861. Bracelet and complete and add some straps and you have a lot of options. Go try on the Tudor Black Bay in both the 41mm and the 39 mm. Many options for colors, materials and bracelets or straps. In the end have two great watches and you can buy them slightly pre-owned and complete for less than msrp. The Speedmaster first for me and then the Black Bay.

When it comes to divers, my BB58 wears most like my Sub. The Omega is a little thick for me but materially a better watch, IMO. How it wears on me just puts me off. Additionally, the look of the 58 was something I was aiming for.

Even with several Rolexes, the 58 holds its own, at a third of the cost.

A few thoughts/questions for the OP:

1) You mention that you're looking for a "casual watch to mix it up." This suggests that your current selection leans toward the more formal (dress watches?). If this is the case, there are many brands that make a diversity of more casual watches.

2) If what you want specifically is a Rolex (sports/professional?), then honestly no other brand is going to scratch that itch. Countless members here have learned this the hard way.

3) Along the lines of the above item, if Rolex is what you want but will not be a reality, then between Tudor and Omega, Tudor will get you closest. I agree with others that Omega as a standalone company is stronger and has better, more unique offerings, but Tudor's design language, feel, and heritage is (not surprisingly) the closest you can get to Rolex without it saying Rolex on the dial.

So the bottom line is, how much is your heart set on a Rolex? The less so, the more options you have open to you. Best wishes

I can see model versus another model argument, or watch versus another watch, but Tudor and Omega are great companies with great offerings. Its both from my vantage point.

The way my bb58 sits on my wrist is perfection. The SM300 on the rubber was really nice but I ended up with the 58. Personal preference… the omega is going to be a better finished watch with a more technically superior movement, but for my wrist the Tudor was a home run.

If you really want to complicate this, throw Grand Seiko into the mix. I’ve got Tudors, Omegas, and GS watches in my collection, and each have their strengths, but I’d be hard pressed to pick which brand is best overall. It really comes down to which individual pieces you like best. If dial and polish are your thing, GS is in a class by itself, even if you throw Rolex into the conversation.

I didn’t read that into his question.

But any way OP. I have multiple of both brands and enjoy the omegas much more and feel the build quality is much better. In fact better than Rolex.

I’m not sure what the means with regards to the eternal battle of Man v Food, I mean Tudor v Omega.
