Rolex Servicing question
Hello
Hope someone can help. I live in the UK and four weeks ago I purchased a pre owned Rolex from a shop. The watch had all the paper work, tags and guarantee card with it. The watch was initially purchased from an AD in March last year. The next day I took it to an AD for a service. It was sent away ro Rolex and yesterday I had a phone call from the AD saying rolex had returned the watch saying that being it was just over a year old and no faults reported by me they would not service it. My question is a) Would rolex normally not service a year old watch if no faults were reported? b) If rolex deemed the watch to be a fake or modified in any way would they specify this as the reason for not servicing it? Any replies would be appreciated Thank you John |

There is no reason to routinely service a Rolex watch that was bought new last year. Wait five years at least, maybe 10. Some people wait decades, though it's not really advisable.

Be happy, Rolex just saved you 1K.

…if it was fake or modified in anyway, Rolex would be explicit in their action / reply.
put a date in your diary for October 2030 for your Rolex service…and in the meantime enjoy your watch. |

That would be always be depending on use regarding service intervals as in general Rolex watches get a pampered life that should be fine. But if used in water and used daily 24/7 it would be prudent to pressure check in between service.

I had this once, when I bought an almost new Submariner, and suddenly panicking it might be a fake I sent it in for a service. To their credit, they open it up and see it is 100% fine so return it. If it was fake, they would not return it. So arguably, it is a free way of getting authenticity... (though you don't get any documentation to prove that!).

Forgot to say in my initial post. The watch was returned in a nice new green rolex pouch within a lovely cardboard box with the rolex logo on it. I suppose if it were not a genuine rolex watch they wouldn’t have packed it in rolex merchandise?. Again in packing it thus it sort of indicates rolex believe it’s one of theirs?

a. Generally, they will tell you it doesn't need a service. If it is presently under warranty, it would void the original warranty and revert to a service warranty if you chose to go ahead with a 1 year service.
b. If it is fake, modified, or aftermarket, they will return it to you and tell you why.

No watch company will perform a service within the warranty period absent some complaint of malfunction by the owner which would then be handled under the warranty. It is surprising the AD did not just tell you this but rather sent it off to RSC which was really just a waste of time and money for shipping.
