Am I the only one…
That got bit by the watch bug in their group of friends? Sometimes I wonder why I have bought what I bought if more times then not, I don’t get to discuss with anyone the fun of the hunt, or the technical capabilities or the history. Believe me, to me it’s not about having the brand for the same of having a brand on the wrist, but for the appreciation.
Most of my friends don’t have a watch, or if they do, it’s an Apple Watch. But I guess that’s why places like this exist. |

That's why it's great to have a forum like this where like-minded enthusiasts can come together and share their passion for watches. From time to time, watch manufacturers and AD also organise get-togethers for collectors to meet, chat and drink. That's what this hobby is about and although you may seem like the odd one out in your group of friends, you are not alone.

A few fellas at work are into watches, which is nice. Between the 4-5 of us, we are also into cologne, nice leather products, cars, etc. There is a commonality, for sure.

Definitely the same for me and, I would say further, that many people in my orbit might even be judgmental about my watches.

Same. I have no friends who are into watches. I also don't really have friends so that says a lot about who I am as a person.

I’ve turned my wife into my fellow watch geek. Of course that’s expensive.

My brother has a few watches, a few automatic Seikos and a couple of others, I just started adding on, only had one watch up until a few months ago, now I’m hooked, it’s an addiction for sure. I just noticed that someone I know has the watch addiction, so whenever I see him we compare what we’re wearing.

Yeah, my friends don't understand it, they don't openly judge me but I know that deep down they disapprove. I wear my watches around them of course, but I don't talk watches with them.
Similiar reaction with work colleagues, out of respect they don't openly criticise me but they think I'm mad for spending "stupid" money on watches. They don't get the passion, it's just materialism to them. Nevermind. |

Two of my best friends are watch nerds likes myself, and were before I met them. One I met at university many years ago, and the other was on the same graduate programme as me when I started work (also many years ago). Since then I've personally got two other friends into the whole watch madness, and my g/f now also has a passing understanding of it all (although I still haven't been able to get her to "graduate" from her beloved Swatches!), but there are still plenty of other friends and family who really don't get it, and undoubtedly never will. But that's fine - I don't make a big deal out my watches: I buy and wear them for me, and me alone. If I find others who are into it, then that's great, but I don't shout about it to others. (Other than on watch forums!)

I have one friend that is kinda into watches. About a little over year ago he got super sanctimonious about the whole notion of a watch collection (and other stuff). He somewhat turned into a buzzkill about the whole deal. Other than that, I come here.

I don't need more enablers, not as long as I spend time on this forum!

OP, within the luxury premium audio industry, camera folks, and of course cars enthusiasts many of us also love mechanical timepieces as well. Are they our neighbors, probably not.

No one in my neighborhood is into watches but have a couple of buddies that are into them so it is nice to have that specific bond. I have had patient's parents compliment my watches in the office......cool but sometimes awkward.

You are not alone. I don't have anyone that I interact with on a regular basis that is into watches. That's why I'm here!

I have two work friends who are into watches, and one personal friend who loves his Rolex. That is the extent of it. Everyone else I know couldn't care less about watches or they wear a fitbit/garmin/apple watch. My wife, god bless her, still wears the Hamilton I bought her for an anniversary present 8 years ago. She loves that watch and doesn't want a Rolex or anything else. I wish I could be satisfied like that - would have saved me a ton of money.

I have a few friends that are into watches. One of which has recently gotten bit by the watch bug badly... in just a couple short years his collection has gone crazy and, apparenly, he's just getting started. I'm looking forward to trying on some pieces that I could only dream of.

I checked your location after reading this I literally bit my tongue until the end of my kids visit, we saw a different pediatrician than we usually do and he walked in with a stunning YG Royal Oak. Waited until the end in case it went to the "sometimes awkward" phase.

No one near me cares. They all just sort of have a blank look like I’m an idiot for purchasing more than 1 nice watch. Like others have said I’m glad for this forum for this.

Also the same here. Of the ten friends I'm close with from college, not one of them has anything than an Apple Watch, some manner of Garmin, or in one case; a G-Shock. All but two of them have kids, so I get it. But yeah; watches are lost on them.
I have another close group of friends that I've volunteered with and we've come together because of watches. It's been rather enjoyable to share watches with them. |

I know a couple of guys who like watches but they are not passionate about them. Those who are passionate or obsessed usually end up here to share their enthusiasm .
