Submariner 41 18k/SS question

Hi all! I’m in search of the new Submariner 18k/ss bluesy. I have a DateJust 2 that I bought 10yrs ago from Daviddsw which I enjoyed the experience. He has one for a little over 5k over MSRP. Are these watches that hard to find or can you get on a waiting list through a AD dealer?

I don’t mind paying a couple thousand over MSRP, just not that much if the waitlist isn’t too long through a local dealer.

Thanks for any input as I’ve been out of the watch market for over 10yrs, just time for a new watch to add to collection.

Thanks,
Britton

TT watches are usually easier to acquire but depends on how your AD works.

Ask your AD. If it sounds promising, wait it out. Otherwise give David a call and start enjoying your Sub in a day or two.

TT Subs both black and blue are a lot easier to get from an AD then SS Subs. I don’t want to tell you what to to do but I would definitely not pay 5K over MSRP without first going in person to a few AD’s and ask for one.

Asking and getting are two different things. Get on the phone with David and have a conversation about the watch you want. Remind him that you are a prior customer and would like to buy from him again. You might be surprised at what he is able to do for you. Is he going to discount 2k, probably not, but he has many watches and one might be the right one at less of a price. The other part is you know who you are dealing with and the service is outstanding. Nothing to lose with a conversation. I refuse to play AD games and wait without a general time for delivery of a watch. I like our Trusted Sellers in that you pay and have the watch by lunch the next day. Good luck and let us know what you decide.

Definitely try ADs first. Should be possible.

Thanks for all of that information everyone! I’m going to call the nearest AD tomorrow and if no good news I’ll call David as I loved my experience with him 10yrs ago. Thanks!

My AD just said 18 months at best. Hopefully, your AD can deliver sooner.

Yes. Right approach indeed. I'd also visit my local ADs first, listen to what they have to say and based on that, decide to go grey or not. Premium is only €3k where I live. I could wait a few weeks for an AD to deliver, but certainly not months. No way.

Discuss with AD. Unless 5K means nothing to you. It will be brand new, with 5 year warranty and 5 cheaper than the alternative. Best to you!

It all depends on your level of patience and how much funny stories you can handle.

Suppose you wait two years at an AD, maybe two price increases, buying some stuff you don’t really want to show that you are worthy of being on the ‘list’.

Paying a few thousand over MSRP for instant gratification and spreading out the costs over a lifetime is marginal imho

I agree. What is the MSRP on the TT Submariner? Last I saw was around 16,580 I believe.. Yes a few thousand I would pay over if none can be found by an AD, just can’t swallow 5,000. I have my DateJust II SS w/white dial that is a daily and I love it!

Many of us make memeories while wearing our watches, stupid , I know. But its hard wired into our brains. I would certainly go visit your AD. That said, think of the enjoyment you would get wearing the watch today because tomorrow is not guaranteed. I'd also speak David and see what he can do to put that dteam on your wrist today. Throwing away 5K is hard to do but you will have something of value on your wrist and it hopefully will appreciate although many only purchase the watches to wear and enjoy and not as fianancial speculation. Good luck with whatever you decide.

Calling or emailing ADs for availability is a waste of time. Walk through their front door and deal with someone in person.

I agree. Called two today and they were like we don’t have any in stock, just displays. Don’t know when we will get one, come in and put your name on a list.
No thank you, I pay a few thousand more and get what I want in a few days as I found a new one 2,500 over MSRP.
