Help identify OP Date

My wife's uncle brought over his gold OP with a textured champagne dial with diamond indices. It has a stainless caseback. Non-quickset movement. It appears to be a 34 but I'm not 100% sure. It's pictured below next to my DJ41. Aftermarket bracelet.

I don't have any tools to pull the bracelet or caseback or I wouldnt have to post here.

I've done a bit of Googling but I'd like a second opinion.

Can anyone give me a reference and/or any other info on this piece?

Thank you!

It's just guesswork, but if you forced me to speculate, I'd say that it's from the late 60s / early 70s with a modified dial. Ref 1550, or something like that.

I thought the same thing. No pie pan dial but I don’t know if those came on the OP Date. Maybe AM dial?

My guess would be a legit dial that was modified with the diamonds. It's pretty common to see.

If its a stainless case back then it is gold plated. Doesnt look gold capped. They used about 10 microns of gold when plating and the watches were only available for a very short time, 3 years maybe. The bracelet should have the letter P on an end link or the word applique on the clasp

Early 70's 34mm. The bracelet does not go with the watch and the end links don't go with the bracelet.

Correct, the bracelet is aftermarket. Thank you both!

I believe the model is a 1550. Writeup on the model here:

https://beckertime.com/blog/review-o...date-ref-1550/

The article says the model didn’t come with diamond indices but with 70s Rolex, who knows…

I also thought it might be a ref 1550, but if you need to know for sure, it's easy enough to remove the bracelet.

One can distinguish a factory diamond dial by the way the diamonds are set. If you study some legit examples, you will quickly understand the differences.
