Hi, I am a new member here and have a 2000 Rolex sub black on black with date I bought new, and now have an opportunity to buy a new 2024 deep sea James Cameron which I have loved for some time at retail from an authorized dealer.
Questions I have are, is it known if the deep sea JC will be discontinued soon, is it still a desirable in demand piece, long term outlook for this piece? Or should I hold out for a GMT Batman, Pepsi, or root beer? Like those also… I also like the Daytona but have not had an opportunity to purchase yet. Thanks in advance. Ticket |

deep sea James Cameron was never in demand because it takes someone with a large wrist to pull off and that's only a small percentage of the customer base.

Your sub is a diver, so the James Cameron won't give you any diversification. Since you express an interest in a GMT-Master II 126710, I'd try to get one of those.

Why bother on long term outlook when you are hopefully buying a keeper.
Maybe buy some shares instead you might turn more of a profit if that’s your aim |

If you’ve loved it for some time, that means you were waiting to be offered it.
Now you have been, buy it surely? Long term outlook - impossible for anyone to tell you. All that matters is if you like it and want to wear it.

Long term outlook is that with proper care and servicing, this watch will outlast all of us.

Sea Dwellers in general appeal to fewer buyers and I’d say you can judge value based on what you’re seeing them selling for on the secondary market
![]() The DBlue is a beautiful chunk of metal on the wrist, and I miss mine from time to time. I see it more as a rotation piece rather than a daily wearer, but that’s just my opinion. Welcome to the forum ![]() |

OP’s signature says he has already acquired the DBlue. Looks like his conundrum has been addressed.

One thing for sure, I have never cared what watches were popular or what people thought of them. I bought the first gen JC Deep Sea and in spite of my rather thin wrists, the watch fits me very well and is one of my most favorite. Don't waste your time listening to peoples opinions.

I would argue it’s definitely one of the coolest dials in the collection with the variant. A very cool piece and I don’t see Rolex keeping a JC in their catalogue forever.

He’s talking about whether it will increase in value. OP, no one knows, and most of us here don’t care, as it’s not why we buy our watches. If you love it and want to wear it, buy it. If not, don’t! Kat Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk |

Thanks to those who provided a kind reply. Confirmed what I told myself, “if you like it buy it”. I liked it for a long time and bought it. My 2000 Submariner date is my daily. I will buy the GMT Pepsi with jubilee also, and a Daytona panda when the opportunity arrives. I will never sell my collection. My 2 daughters can deal with that one day, along with my exotic car collection. My reply to the ignorant comments, I say, you clearly have never asked for a comment to a question others deemed dumb. Congratulations. And yes my wrists will support the size. Unfortunately there are donkey’s on this forum too. SMH

Welcome to the forum. Do a little research by familiarizing yourself with this forum. Basically learn to read the room. If you buy what you like you'll never be disappointed in a purchase. If you're trying to predict the future and make an investment you'll only be disappointed.

I think OP had a decent question about value retention. Unfortunately my answer would be to look at what they trade for versus MSRP.

Always be patient and get the piece you really desire. Days of up investment are over, thankfully.

In your first post it is a Sub and now a Subdate? There is a difference and this may have skewed some replies? I think some took “long term outlook” as an investment question? Apologies if your were referring to something else? The JC is a big Rolex and could not be a daily for me with only a 7.5” wrist. If you are referring to the current model white dial SS Daytona it is not a panda. Enjoy your exotic car collection. ![]() Regards, Donkey. ![]()
