Deepsea versus White Gold Daytona
I am considering swapping my white gold daytona on croc strap for a DSSD.
What do people think? I find wearing the daytona great but stressful, in terms of it being less durable than a SS watch and or wear and tear in general. Croc strap isn't ideal for getting wet etc either. |

These are very different watches. Is the WG Daytona your ONLY Rolex?

Hmm, the two aren't really even comparable. Obviously, I would choose the WG Daytona.
However, a leather strap for daily use isn't the best option. Maybe buy a DSSD and SS Daytona. Problem solved. |

I have often received compliments on the watch from non-WIS. The 116518 is rarely seen, has a classic look, and the strap really accents the gold (mine is yellow gold). Just this week, I showed my new white dial SS Daytona to a friend and her only comment was, "Why haven't you been wearing that one with the strap? That's the one I like." So, I'd think long and hard about the proposed swap. The WG Daytona is inherently worth a lot more than the Deep Sea, it has attributes of both a sport and dress watch, the white gold and croc strap (especially the light brown strap) look absolutely great and classic together, and it is more flexible than the Deep Sea (my opinion) for daily, dress, and office wear even if the strap introduces some limitations. They are completely different watches in so many ways. Personally, I'd keep the Daytona and start saving for a dive watch. Last edited by Otto; 18 September 2009 at 07:14 AM.. Reason: typo |

I know what you mean about the Daytona being delicate, but honestly I couldn't imagine keeping the deep sea out of those two. The daytona is far more elegant, and since I've had my SS white face I've had lots of compliments.

DEEPSEA IMO!!...read GMT kids post on his review of the DEEPSEA!! If that does not get you fired up then stick with your Daytona!! Daytona's are elegant and classy. In my opinion though a watch should be rugged and tough. This is like comparing a big 4x4 truck to a rolls royce!! Ill take the truck!! LOL

Like chalk and cheese, these are very different models.
If you absolutely must have only one, I would go with the DeepSea and have some money left over for another Rolex for social occasions. |

Daytonas are for keeps, I don't understand what you are feeling stressful about. Remember that Rolex watches are built to last and are meant to be worn and enjoyed. If one entertains his/her OCD in regards to his/her Rolex, it doesn't matter whether it's a Daytona or a DSSD, PCL or no PCL, tool watch or no tool watch...they can never experience the pleasure and enjoyment from their watch.

I see these threads posted often........Rolex vs. Rolex. I'm not sure if I understand why you would want/need to have two models compete with each other for any other reason than personal preference. I like to point out why I like each model but not at the cost of another Rolex model. It somehow diminishes the "loser" IMO.

Having just been to my AD and trying on a bunch of models I would say keep the Daytona, I love the strap version, such class. Save for the Deepsea as your second watch, it really is a stunning watch and would complement the more dressy Daytona!

Keep the Daytona. The DSSD is way too big for my taste.
