Patek dress watches and rubber straps in the tropics? (not Nautilus/Aquanaut)
https://www.tatlerasia.com/style/wat...patek-philippe
This article shows Ed Sheeran performing in Singapore with a Patek 5230G world time in white gold with a blue face, with a plain texture navy blue rubber strap made by Delugs in Singapore. I like the look. It's very clean, similar to how you would dress down a Patek dress watch with a smooth calf leather strap over alligator. Could I ask if anyone here does this, pairing dress watches and rubber straps, especially in the tropics where heat and humidity kills leather straps if one has to go outdoors in the middle of the day? Rubber straps are very practical in this context during the day. Are there any good articles describing how to do this or providing samples? Strap vendors like Delugs have a number of examples, but rubber straps are typically shown with tool or sport watches, or with much edgier watches like MB&F and Ming. Might anyone have guidelines on what work and what don't? For example, if one goes beyond plain black and navy to bolder choices, what work and what don't? What about plain versus textured straps? Or can you generally put any rubber strap on a Patek with a neutral dial color (white, black, gray)? Hoping for inspiration here! |

Delugs makes nice straps and Ed’s combo looks great.
I recently tried a canvas strap for travel, trip involved warm weather and some swimming. The canvas strap held up really well and dried quickly without the mildew odor I find typical of nylon straps once they get wet. The strap I used was a bit rugged but there are some very nice canvas straps available and I am currently waiting for a couple of more premium finish type to be delivered. I had owned the 5711g (nautilus on strap). It was available with a rubber strap that presented as leather, fully swim ready and beautiful to look at. It would be amazing if this type of strap was offered from Patek for their other watches. Unfortunately being a nautilus strap it has atypical shape where it connects to the lugs.

I also like the 100% cotton canvas straps over rubber. I think you could pull it off on the right patek dress watches.

The new Delugs "sailcloth" straps are rubber but with a texture that makes them look more like fabric. Good stuff.
I assume smart watches are making people rethink rubber strap pairing. |
