5226 or 6119 for first Patek…

Debating between these 2 for my first Patek, I’ve tried the 6119 in person and really liked it. The grain and texture on the dial was very nice. I do prefer it with a more casual tan colored strap.

The 5226 also looks great in pics and love that one with the black strap.

I know it’s personal preference and each has different hands, case design etc.

I would love a 5172 or 5320 with the syringe hands down the road. But just thinking one at a time for the moment and dreaming about what the future collection could hold.

Both are great choices but three key questions to consider:

1. Size on wrist (6119 I feel wears bigger than 5226 even though its 39mm vs 40mm)
2. Whether you need a date complication
3. Price - 6119 is cheaper than 5226 by more than 10%

I prefer the 5226 mainly due to the wearability on wrist and the dial/case design

I was in exact same situation- I went with the 5226g and no regrets- my decision was based on:

1. It fit my 6.75 inch wrist better- the 6119 lugs were longer/straighter and just felt awkward on my wrist
2. I rarely dress up, my vibe is casual- the 5226g fit that style better (fyi comes with both black and tan strap)

Good luck with your choice!

Tough decision but I’d steer 5226.
5226 from AD isn’t far off current grey pricing for 5172. Unless you are dead set on AD route, maybe consider this as your first?

5226 has more everyday wear aesthetics compared to the dressier look of the 6119. I personally much prefer the 6119, but I probably would mainly use it when dressing up and much less for casual daily wear.

I went with the 5226. I rarely dress up and felt like it was a better fit as a daily.

Consider 2334 or 7215?

5226 or 6119 for first Patek…

Very different pieces, so depends what you’re going for.

5226 is more an everyday piece. Automatic with a date makes it a lot more practical. It also wears more casually and also comes with a black strap, so again more of an everyday piece that is also more sporty.

The 6119 is a dress piece and I’d say classic calatrava with modern vibes. I wear it with shorts or jeans and can dress it down (I have the 6119R), but with the leather strap it’s just a lot more dressy.

I’d say the caseback on the 6119 is also infinitely better than the 5226. The 5226 has this tiny window that reminds me of those fake watches you buy. The 6119 has a movement that was made just for it (brand new developed and first used in the 6119). Fully fills the caseback, and with it being manual wound you get to really see the whole movement .

I went 5226 for my first PP. don’t regret it for a second. It’s a beautiful watch, understated, but you know you’re wearing a great piece

Currently on the hunt for my next piece. I also have montblanc perpetual ltd edn which never gets a wear these days (infact, I’ve never actually worn it other than trying it on when it first arrived)

I think the 6119 is more classic patek, 5226 more sporty. I like both but love the details of the 5226. Dial looks boring in photos but nice in the sun
