I think this is more true for their modern watches. My first rolex was a 16710 bought 20 years ago and I can tell you the clasp did not stand up to the quality of a seamasters I had at the same time. It felt like an afterthought. It serves its purpose but it definitely didn't ooze quality for the price at the time. Modern rolexes do seem to be a different breed.
