New arrival
After my foray over onto the "dark side" with my EXPII, I was considering an Explorer as a complimentary dress watch. I even bought an Alpha "Explorer" to explore the size and style.
But a couple of months ago, I spotted the Omega 36mm AT with black dial/silver hands and markers. (PIC 2504.50) Although discontinued, my AD was able to get one from Bienne and it arrived this week: I took her out on a "shakedown cruise" yesterday making hospice rounds. My first impression is that, like her big brother (my 2803.34), she wears larger due to the thinner bezel. And to my surprise, the dial is much more readable than I expected. I usually have problems with silver hands in changing light. (My camera has more problems with these hands than I.) All in all, I am quite pleased that I chose the AT over the Explorer. The AT has classic styling, date, beautiful bracelet, display back, co-axial movement, 150m WR, for a lot less money. Fr. John† |

Congrats, Fr. John.....what a beauty.
I owned that very same watch once in the larger diameter of 41 mm I think. It had one of the most stunning BLACK dials I've ever seen. Very dressy watch. Wear it in good health. JJ

I made some dial comparison shots today and perhaps JJ or someone else can comment as to the actual size of my EXPII's dial. The AT measures 30mm but the raised crystal on the Rolex makes exact measurement difficult. In any event, here are two "black beauties" side by side:
The thin bezel on the Aqua Terras makes for a larger dial so that the ATs seem to wear larger. Here is "little sister" next to "big brother" 2803.34 (39.2mm): A handsome duo even if I do say so myself. Fr. John† |
