Watching this thread with interest. My wife said the 5711 looks like a 1970's TV set.

I find a lady wearing the 5711 utterly irresistible.

I love the 5711--used to consider it a "grail" some years ago when I was younger--but it's spectacularly overrated.

Back in the day, this was the watch I wanted because I knew so many people with Submariners and I wanted something different. Back then I think it was the 3700 or 3711 (not the 5711). But at that time the price was staggeringly expensive compared to the Sub (still is!), plus I didn’t have that kind of discretionary dough laying around.

Fast forward to now. I now have the $, and I would definitely buy a 5711 for retail, but I just simply don’t see the value in paying the huge premiums of today. The only other factor weighing on me is that the 5711 has become so much of a trophy watch that it appeals to me far less than when it was an under-the-radar piece.

That meme is the reality with nice cars. All you get is grown men at gas stations asking questions.

Any high-end marquis is the same story. You get more attention from guys than girls. And then the odd ball that wants to lean up against your car or put their greasy hands on the hood.

And with a watch... People just look and say "that's a fake right?". There's no winning in today's society.

It's also rare to even find a WIS though!

I find it easier just walking around with an entourage.
