New shoes. At what point is it time to change the strap?
I have had my 5146g for about 4 1/2 years now and keep it in a pretty good rotation wearing about a couple of times per week and generally not much in the summer time.
It finally got to the point where I knew it was time to replace the strap. Hadn’t started smelling yet but I know it probably wouldn’t be long. I feel like this was a pretty good span to keep the strap and believe the strap life was extended by keeping it on a good rotation and wiping off sweat with baby wipes frequently. How frequently do you guys change the strap? Anything you do to preserve the life? I will probably also get a second strap to even further rotate. This time I went from the navy blue to the dark brown. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

When it suits me or when I just need to throw yet more money at this stuff. With PP quick release pins its easy to have an array of straps to suit your mood on any given day. Never ending fun and options. Enjoy.

I stopped buying OEM straps a while back. There's a much better variety, at equivalent (if not better) quality, and at cheaper prices, from the artisans such as Jean Rousseau and Camille Fournet.

Long time to see...... My strap still look brand new & to preserve the life of the strap I use "Meguiar's G10916 Gold Class Rich Leather Cleaner & Conditioner - 15.2 oz." every 5 days of wearing it..... It a 2 minutes job of cleaning and wiping....

I haven’t owned a watch long enough for a strap to look like that.

I think it’s time to change :)
I do the smell test... it it stinks and I can’t wash the grime off. It’s time to get a new strap. It’s the same test I have with underwear’s this... Lol |

What fit do you have on the strap? Is it pretty tight on your wrist or a little bit loose? I'd imagine that wearing it tight overtime would cause more wear / sweat, dirt, etc. getting into the strap.

I also do the smell test. The old one, although it has started smelling just yet, it has the beginning of that sickly sweet sent that can turn very quickly. https://www.rolexforums.com/images/smilies/dummy.gif

I use Saphir Renovateur on both sides of my straps weekly. Not only does it serve to clean the strap, but it also conditions it making it even more comfortable on the wrist.
I also only wear leather bands when the weather is suitable. Otherwise, it’s rubber or metal bracelets for me. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
